GBV Reunion

Wow.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the show last night (luckily, I requested today off from work for that very reason) which was easily one of the best things I've ever witnessed.

I did a quick search and couldn't find any topics about the reunion tour, but search on this forum has always kind of sucked, so I was wondering, who here saw any of the 2010 Guided by Voices reunion shows?

As I said before, I was at last night's (sort of) last show of the tour and am still blown away. Everyone else's experiences similar?

And does anyone happen to have the official setlist from last night? I'm sure I'm missing a handful of songs on the one I've reconstructed in my head.

Saw them at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. It was amazing.

Sometimes it's the little moments - did anyone laugh when the two roadies came out and untwisted Pollard's mike cord right at the first encore?

I saw them in Minneapolis about a month ago. It was fantastic.

I'd seen them probably 20 times starting in 1997 or so til they called it quits, so this was really exciting for me as I'd never seen the "classic" line-up.


All of the GBV shows I'd seen before, I'd seen with a friend of mine who died a few years ago so it was also a bit bittersweet for me.

That's so cool that the classic line-up is back out and doing it.  First time I saw them was on the infamous tour with Urge Overkill and they were fantastic.

I saw the Matador 21 show in Vegas.  It was perfect, Tom and Philly Boy Roy Introducing the band.  Yo La Tango played before them, towards the end of their set a guy ran onto the stage(in front of the monitors) and started fist pumping, then ran to the other side of the stage.  He came back and did it again and was grabbed by a bouncer who cocked his arm back and was going to lay the guy out.  Someone broke it up, turns out the guy was Mitch Mitchell.  I can't imagine if the bouncer had layed out Mitch and GBV couldn't play.

I taught my 4 year old how to do high kicks when we listen to them.

Saw them in Portland thanks to Hugman's heads up on twitter. Amazing show. We ran into Mitch Mitchell before the show in a nearby restaurant. He was really cool and kind of hilarious.

So is Mitch Mitchell just a running tape loop of Ted Nugent's stage banter from Double Live Gonzo? That's the feeling I'm getting.

I haven't seen GBV on this tour but I saw the "classic" lineup the first time around and, frankly, they kinda sucked. I was really disappointed at the time and thought maybe I'd seen an off night but when I asked around to folks who'd seen them multiple times I was told "No, that's pretty much what they always sound like," so I never saw them live again and didn't try very hard to get tickets for the reunion shows. Sounds like I may have made a mistake.
