On FOT Forum Search
« on: April 12, 2007, 10:09:39 PM »
Discovered this recently, thought it might be useful to other FOTs. When you search the forum, keep in mind that your current context defines the scope of your search.  For example, as I write this, the breadcrumb path is:

Friends Of Tom Forum > Non Best Show Related > General Discussion > Start new topic

If I were to search on "Rusty Griswold" from here, the return would be nada.  This is because the string "Rusty Griswold" (at 7:01PM PDT) only appears in one post, Jixby Phillips' response to KickTheBobo's "I found this at a yard sale recently" post in the Kidney Stone Discussion area:

Friends Of Tom Forum > The Best Show on WFMU > Kidney Stone Discussion > I found this at a yard sale recently.

People that post a lot -- to this forum or others -- probably learned that lesson long ago.  But I did want to mention it to either (a) the casual poster or (b) someone who isn't ensconced in the computer/internet industry.

So, if you are searching for something and you aren't sure of its general location, always click the HOME link before entering your search string.  Thank you, and goodnight.
