Band Judging, why?
« on: March 23, 2011, 07:59:36 AM »
What bands have you judged without hearing a single notes from?
For me it's Toro y Moi:

Primarily I just get annoyed when I can check the tours on Pitchfork(because that's literally all I use that sight for) and I have to dodge 20 Toro y Moi posts.

And his album cover makes me gag:

Yeah, I used to do this a ton. I still do it on occasion. The first band I remember doing this to was the Strokes. I eventually liked them.

I don't have an idea what to do with Toro y Moi either. From the name to the image to the album cover, it's a challenge to think, "Gotta check this out."

I do this a lot, most recently with Big Time Rush.

I'm a 10 year old female.

I was not prepared for that album cover. I think I'm gonna be sick.

I filter the majority of the bands on the Rcrd lbl daily newsletter by appearance (ironic or too Gorilla vs Bear-y) and hometown (Brooklyn or Portland) before downloading...although Blank Dogs & Crystal Stilts both got a pass earlier this week.

If I see members of a band putting their corpse paint on with little make up mirrors in the corner of the bar before they go on, I'm not going to like their music no matter how good they are.
If you're not a job creator, you better step the fuck away from that hot dog machine.

What is that dude eating? A photoshopped grapefruit?
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I thought it was some weird dental mutation.

He's eating a dental mutation?

I think he is eating fungus. A metaphor for his career.

No, I meant that whatever he's eating looks like mutated teeth coming out of his mouth.

I was on Amazon last night and was recommended the Toro y Moi album. So, I listened to the samples to avoid unfairly writing it off. From the samples alone, I'd say we've all made a wisely intuitive choice. It just didn't do much for me.
