Movies You Can't Forget
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:42:39 AM »
I mean literally.  Terrible movies that, due to the time you watched them (mostly childhood or adolescence) you have large swaths of in your memories.

Mine include:

Police Academy 2, especially Mahoney's Jughead/Fudpuckers bit and nearly everything that Bobcat Goldthwait said.
Moving Violations, a little-seen Bill Murray's brother's vehicle

I suppose I'm lucky that somehow I never learned any dialogue from Ice Pirates.

I'll add more later.  Speaking of the pharmaceutical industry, why can't they invent something to erase these from my mind.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I've seen that piece. Many times. It was sort of fascinating, watching John Murray (I think that's his name, I ain't gonna go look it up). It's like when you try and make another cup of tea with the tea bag.
Remember how he couldn't stop his leg?

And Sally Kellerman!

Saw Moving Violations in the theater, and it burned a few key moments into my psyche:

-John Murray driving along groovin to some rock n' roll, and at one point his head is wedged in the steering wheel.

-The chubby lady chugging a bottle of cooking oil.

-The zero gravity sex scene. More specifically, John Murray kind of doing a little groovin' shuffle in zero gravity.

aw man: so sad: John Murray doesn't even have a pic up at IMDB.

Good lord, someone has posted the entire movie up at youtube:

An animated atrocity called Orbit The Astro Dog. That may not even be the title because I can't find anything online by searching, but that was definitely the character's name.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

As kid, this scene in Snow Day stuck with me for obvious reasons.

i rented a copy of phantasm on dvd years ago that had a deleted scene with the guys hanging out in the dude's ice cream shop and they're just eating ice cream and laughing maniacally. i don't know if they were drunk or what the point of it was, but i loved it.

must. find. clip!

"Real Men" with Jim Belushi. I think my parent's rented it or it was on cable in the early 90's and I only have fleeting memories of the movie itself. It took me a long time to figure out it wasn't Bill Murray as the lead role.

The Delta Force

Even now, if I'm flipping through the channels and find that this particular film is on, I will stop whatever I'm doing and watch it. It's one of those films that is so bad it's good.

Robert Frank, my favorite photographer, made a movie called "Big Candy Mountain" with Tom Waits, whom I love.  I really looked forward to seeing it. 20 years later I still think of it as the only movie that ever made my life worse not only for the time it took to watch it but for years afterward.

Night of the Comet.

This one, too!

The whole scene with Willy the Stockboy.  "Isn't that a SCARY noise?"

Salem's Lot. My Dad's friend who was a police officer, left me with his 18 year old son who insisted on watching that miserable tv movie. After viewing it I couldn't be left alone for what seemed like a year, nightmares, the worst! Fast forward to a few years ago, I watched that movie and had to fast forward through most of it because it was so slow and boring.

I would probably remember that one even more vividly if I hadn't bailed 45 minutes in.

I did, however, gain an astonishing new insight from what I saw of it. It had never previously occurred to me that Fascists were kind of sexually all fucked up.
