The Mel Appreciation Thread
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:20:35 AM »
Every Thursday around 9 am the podcast drops and I give Mel an invisible high-five. It's disgusting that he doesn't have his own thread of appreciation.

I'm disgusted by the person who voted that Mel was a mere "lifesaver." How dare you! Mel is a savior of all existence, like the 70s version of the Phoenix in X-Men.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

I usually listen to the archive, so I can hear it soon after the initial broadcast, and I can hear the tunes Tom plays. However, I recognize that Mel has been an essential part of disseminating and amplifying BestShow love to all corners of the globe and beyond. Beyond the globe, because I betcha someone has figured out how to hear the podcast on Mars. So hats off to Mel.

Thanks you Mel. I voted you The Champ. It's the highest compliment to be compared to Philly Boy Roy's famous haircut.

Three replies? You people disgust me. THIS IS MEL WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. Maybe the word podtrash should be reserved for ungrateful downloaders.

Mel is like the Johnny Appleseed of FoT-dom: going from non-brand specific mp3 player to non-brand specific mp3 player and from computer to comptuer, planting the seeds of the Best Show. SALUTE!

Basically, the podcast is why I can listen. And why I've ever been able to listen. Listening live is a pretty tough draw for me. Without Mel's work, I would have missed out on all this excellence: the show, being a FOT, and the odd ways the show has changed my life for the better.

Thanks.

Yay for Mel!

It's the little things, like leaving in enough of a song so that when Tom refers to it you know what he's talking about ("Don't Stop Me Now" for example).

I, too, try to catch the archives. But how many times have I been adrift with nothing but me, my iPod, and a few books that I'll never read? MANY MANY TIMES. So, MANY MANY MANY thanks to Mel for the podcast. And personally, I hate to say it, I think the show sounds even better in podcast form. (If you're not listening live, that is. And don't have access to the archive.) Much love, brother.
I can hear you judging me.

I usually find myself working in the far corners of the globe, off the beaten path. One great source of enjoyment and some amount of comfort for those homesick moments, is The Best Show podcast. I am amazed and humbled by Mel's quiet dedication to this public service. On time, every time.
Mel!!!! Thank you.

This thread is STILL only at one page? Shame on ALL of us. I hear Tom's going to take away the podcast unless this thread gets bigger than Chinatown.

The show would not be anywhere near where it's at in terms of support or reach if it wasn't for Mel doing what he does in and out, week after week, year after year.

Thank you.

Tom.
