Unsung Joe & Jane Callers
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:20:19 PM »
This thread is intended to recognize folks who are solid, enduring and/or able callers who don't get the perks and accolades of the Mutant, Quality and Power Callers. These are the workhorses with more class than flash. The hardhats. The Lunch pails. The Joe & Jane Callers.

I'd like to start by recognizing Nick from Standford, CT.

I've heard him catch one of the most unfair Heave-Ho's ever as well as being treated with suspicion (both times because Tom didn't like the sound of his voice*) and never heard him complain about either. There's a humility to a Nick from Stanford, CT that's inspiring. I always enjoy hearing him pop up when I'm cruising the archives.

Who are your Joe & Jane Callers? SING THEM!!!

*I don't blame Tom for a second for going with his gut on this type stuff. Nine times out of 10 I'm sure he's dead on.

Evan from Providence.  Got majorly GOMP'ed several years ago for terlet talk, and I know he was heartbroken about it.  Shame because he had been a really solid caller before that.  But recently, after years of absence, he called in.  Here's to you, Evan!

And what about that broad from Maine?  She hasn't called in a long time, though.  Screw her.

Seconded?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

Stacey from Ashville, NC and Mackro in Seattle both are solid if somewhat unspectacular. And I mean that in a good way.

My calls are solid? Really? Thank you, CSW!

To be honest, when I first read CSW's post, I unnecessarily focused on the word "unspectactular" more than the rest of the sentence. Why did I do that? I mean, I agree with the assessment, but so what?

I also felt the same for Nick from Stamford CT (whom I've been close friends with before we discovered we were FOTs) when I saw Jason use the word "humility" in the context of his call. Again, why? This thread and its posters have nothing but the best intentions.

In brief: the web can be a crappy tool for championing the underdogs, The Rest, the Honorable Mentions, or any Tier 2 or 3 type accolades.

I wonder if everything on the Web just removed all of those Tier 2 or 3 lists altogether. What if "The Rest" didn't exist? Would Tom be happier?

Granted, I grew up with a family that would physically hit me if I didn't get A+'s or wasn't #1 at everything, so it's probably just me.

What I meant is I've heard people who got the short end of the stick be jerks about it. Nick is never a jerk and has an air of patience about him. Humility is a word with very positive associations for me and I never mean it as a backhanded compliment.

I didn't mean any offence by that, really. I guess what I meant was when I hear your name, I think to myself "cool, this guy will add something good to the mix, without flaming out horribly etc". And that is a GOOD THING. Sorry if I came accross wrong the first time.
