A Message Board Where You Roleplay As A Fox
« on: August 30, 2011, 10:49:27 PM »
I have spent a majority of my life discovering and infiltrating odd Internet communities. This may take the cake!

http://vixenslaugh.proboards.com/index.cgi

Welcome to Vixen's Laugh, a website where one can roleplay as a fox! As in the animal and not as a sultry woman.

I am exploring this more. But there is some bizarre/arcane "rules" posting in which, in true crackpot message board fashion, the moderator/creator seems like some creepy fascist. This is what I discoverd

Quote
This Is A Realistic RP

Your foxes can't fly, aren't psychic, don't have supernatural senses, or access to any magic. They cannot build fires, cannot tie knots, and can't use weapons. They are foxes.

Being unrealistic will earn you a 5-40% penalty, based on how severe it is. Tying a knot is obviously a lot less severe than using a shotgun.

Best roleplay message board dialogue ever?

Quote
Tokala pranced along following the tod, she was curious to see how hard is he to spin in her way, but it seemed to be easy so far, because she let him to how he thinks it's right. She thought he seemed interesting so she let it flow his way, like it was mentioned before. The vixen smiled and chirped again, "The name's Tokala, what is yours?" Her tail accidentally brushed with the tod's again, then quickly moved away as she felt his fur, but she kept herself normal. She was just a master at it.

Quote
"M--Marco, nice to meet you, Tokala," he stammered, heart hammering in his ears with exhilaration. As he walked, he caught sight of a mouse loping through the underbrush, and followed it with his eyes until it came within range. His arching, gold-and-black figure was a sight to behold as he crushed the mouse's skull with the force of his paws. He picked up the mouse gently in his jaws and placed it in front of Tokala, bowing his head and sitting down with tail curled around his paws. "For you, my fine lady. No need for you to dirty your fine pelt for a simple meal," he chirped coolly. His yellow eyes alone gave away his ecstasy.

Holy Moly, Greggulator. I haven't laughed this hard in a while. This "rules" disclaimer totally reminds me of Scott Aukermann's modus operandi when he's dungeon-mastering a game of "Would You Rather" ... the way he lays out completely weird information and then acts like YOUR the idiot for not instantly understanding what he's talking about.

Are you doing this as a Jane Goodall-type investigation to get a feel for internet subcultures? Or just to mock these people? Because if the latter, that's pretty shitty.

I'm going to catch that fox if I can
And then I'll bring her home to my den
And we'll be friends for life
She'll be just like a wife
I'm going to catch that fox
I'm going to catch that fox
I'm going to catch that fox if I can

No. Jane Goodall-type all the way. I like seeing these worlds and trying to become part of them. I've got no problem with roleplaying (and have been known to roll a few 12-sided myself through the years). But I just like how specific this is. It isn't just about roleplaying animals. It's roleplaying foxes.

I understand being interested in something that peculiar. I have really specific, kind of random interests. But that next step is what I love. I'm just really curious as to what the genesis of this idea is and how many other people want to take part.

From what I've read, most of the stories on there so far are sweet love stories between foxes. It's kind of twee, in a way.

Other message boards I've unearthed and loved:
1) www.modernbutlers.com -- a message board about, for and by people employed as butlers.
2) Some LiveJournal of people who write saucy fan fiction about Nan Britton, the teenage mistress of President Warren G. Harding.
3) The multitude of fan fiction pages dedicated to Steve Perry and the other members of Journey.

If you actually decide to contribute somehow you should roleplay as the protagonist of this story. I don't think it breaks any of their rules but I want to see how these people react to dealing with a fox version of Jack Carter.

I would like to recruit fellow FOTs to join this forum with me. I would like to roleplay versions of classic Billy Wilder firms but with foxes as opposed to Fred MacMurray.

I have signed up and taken over a vixen whom I named Jocelyn.

The site provides a lot of detail about the characteristics of red foxes. Through this, I learned about the dynamics of the fox pack. A male fox is called a tod. A female fox is called a vixen. Their pack is called a skulk. The pack is led by the tod and his vixen mate. The rest of the skulk is made up of other vixens, all of whom take a submissive role to the vixen mate. If a submissive vixen gets knocked up by the tod, the mate vixen kills those children.

Jocelyn has approached Marco and Tokia, who have recently mated after a brief period of flirtation.

Quote
"I assume you're his mate. And I'm totally fine with that. I'm disgusting and ashamed of myself. And you... you're SO much prettier than I'll ever be. I'll do anything you want. Seriously, you name it, I'll do it."

Jocelyn looked to the left. She saw a mouse. She quickly pounced on it.

"Here! I killed a mouse. I want you to have it. I'm totally fat and gross anyways."

She then swallowed.

"On the off chance that this tod here finds me desirable, and something happens when you're not looking, you can totally kill my babies. It's fine with me. You're in charge here! I'm just a weak vixen who grew up with poor parents who always wanted to be someone like you but deep down inside knew she'd never be good enough," she said.

No response yet.

A male fox is called a tod.

We need to get Vanessa Bayer's father on this board.

I was doing some research on online role-playing websites earlier today for a thing I'm trying to write and I remembered this thread from years ago.  I checked out the website and I was legitimately saddened to find that no one has posted on it since late 2011.  The most recent activity is a poll that says "Is Vixen's Laugh Dead?" that no one voted on either way.  The only posts after that have been from a spambot advertising "Hip Hop Jewelry".

I thought the person was misspelling 'toad' for some reason.

I am starting to think you are a fox infiltrating the FOT Board.

I'd like to see a FOT infiltrate the FOX (News) board.
