HOW DARE YOU. Ira Glass is a national treasure. He's my spiritual guru/dad.

Are you listening to the same radio show I am? Who doesn't love David Rakoff's muffled, precious accent? He sounds like he's talking into a paper bag because he can't understand why people don't buy his books.

David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell are great too! Both have such amazing radio voices they put you to shame. I have an iTunes graphic equalizer preset called "hiss reducer" that I use when they read their amazing stories.

Man, there's this one recent show called "24 Hours at the Golden Apple" where they recorded a whole day at some greasy spoon in Chicago. It was genius. There's nothing I love more than listening to old men too close to the microphone who don't want to talk, drunk college students, lowlife teenagers and sad waitresses.
...Gorcey?

I remember the 24 Hours at the Golden Apple show as well.  I totally had a driveway moment!  Who knew that bored teens would spend hours in a diner text messaging each other and trying to hang out with members of the opposite sex!  Who ever thought that police officers take coffee breaks during their "beats" and that sometimes they're busy and sometimes there are great lulls in activity.  Who would have ever guessed that they get more drunk and disorderly calls when the bars let out then, say, at 8pm(!!).  I learned so much about This American Life of Ours from that show, primarily because I never actually leave my desk.  I'm just too busy reading the Sunday New York Times to engage with other people, so it's great to have a show that sums up what's going on "out there" in places like "the midwest" and amongst people like "the lower middle class" in poignant little audio vignettes every week.

Two of Kasper Hauser's recent podcasts skewered This American Life.  Featuring The Sound of Young America's own Jesse Thorn.

"This is like Disneyland..."

"No, it was like horrible, it was a horrible nightmare..."

"Horrible cries like a theme park..."

"No, not like..."

"S-so you were just thinking this is unreal, this is like a Dis-... I am in a Disney movie like Captain Nemo!"

"No!"
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

You have a job      where you don't even know how      to do that job. What'd you do when people asked you      to, like      write a software program?
"Alright, well, for the sake of this conversation, let's say the book does not exist."

"Hiss Reducer"!  Hilarious!  Sedaris and Vowell are both hiss-heavy...
