Best/Worst Moment of Other WFMU (or non-WFMU) Shows
« on: November 04, 2011, 02:04:10 PM »
On Clay Piegeon's recent fill-in for Dan Bodah, he played one of his Occupy Wall Street documentaries. At one point he's interviewing a complete lunatic who's comparing water fluoridation to the Holocaust, claiming that he almost beat Frank Lautenberg in the NJ Senatorial election, saying he was physically in the Bush administration meeting in which they planned 9/11, and so on. Then he asks Clay what station he's from, and Clay says WFMU, and the guy says, "Oh yeah! I love WFMU! 91.1!"  Turns out he's a regular listener.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Holy great topic! I am tired as hell of Clay's Occupy coverage.  Hearing him interview odd New Yorkers is great but what better a way to tease my doubts about the Occupy movement than to interview extremists and complete idiot kids. Also on Night People yesterday. If anyone follows the show you'll know who Joey is. He reminds me a lot of Petey. He was cute at first because he was a kid then he got older and more and more uninteresting. Yesterday he flaked out on the song and you could tell Sandy was disappointed. Also I love Night People but I swear they say "I feel like..." so much.

Also I am always watching things on other shows and thinking about how much I want to mention them here but I don't want to start a new topic. One thing I've been thinking about and laughing at alot lately is the idea of cutting and pasting Daniel Stern narrative audio in parts of The Wonder Years where it doesn't belong, making Kevin think completely non-sequitur things. Imagine Jack yelling at Kevin and all Kevin is thinking is "Hummana-hummana-hummana!" or "Hello!"

Do it, Paul!

I actually like Clay's OWS coverage, precisely because of the fact that he seems to seek out nutjobs, kids, tourists, and anti-OWS people. But then again I listen to Democracy Now almost every day and I can only listen to guest speakers like Angela Davis or Michael Moore so many times (I love Angela Davis but have heard her speak many times; Michael Moore, not so much).
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

The opera composed and performed on Kenny G.'s show some years ago.  It wasn't archived, I believe.

Is that a best or a worst moment? Or does it matter with Kenny G?

Back in 2006 when I first started listening to WFMU I caught an episode of Seven Second Delay driving home from school, it was the one where Ken and Andy were trying to start a rumor about a b-list celebrity and they ended up settling on Kurt Russel being incontinent.

Anyway, at some point during the show, they decide to try and call Kurt Russel's agent, only to find out that Andy and Kurt have the same agency. So Andy calls to try and get a denial or a no comment out of them, and then chickens out as soon as they pick up the phone.

I had never laughed harder in my life.

The Robe Lowe character on Parks & Recreation has stepped it up greatly in the last few episodes. He is now one of my favorite characters. I laugh so hard when he goes from extreme excitement to pure disappointment in the snap of a finger. Like when Ron was pretending not to know his name.

I loved Clay Pigeon's Record Fair show, especially when he interviews Tom and Tom pretends not to know who he is.

Clay Pigeon's coverage of the Obama win in 2008 was ecstatic radio. I listened to it while in Korea (where I am again) and it almost made me feel like I was back living in New York.

Clay Pigeon was my first exposure to WFMU. I gradually migrated my allegiance to The Best Show as I clamored for more podcasts.

The street interviews are pretty priceless. He is so non-judgmental and gracious. He'll talk to anybody who is willing. I especially value his interviews with homeless people. I really respect him. He's a national treasure.

He's really funny live, too.
I can hear you judging me.

Does anyone know if Night People had more lax FCC rules because of their past time slot? I am listening to this interview Taylor Negron and he is swearing like crazy. Usually they mention it to the guest but with him they are just letting it go? Do/did they not know how to dump?

I seem to remember they had multiple dumps, but I am not sure the beep is between the microphone and the machine doing the archiving, it may be between that machine and the broadcast console.

Yeh that makes sense.
