My favourite Paul F. Tompkins moment was in that one thing on Mr. Show where he played Thomas Edison, and he was riding a bicycle, and then he looked off-camera and said, "oh hey," and then rode off. I'd really like to know if he made that up on the spot - do you guys think I should call in the next time he's in studio?

Yes!

I want to talk to Aimee Mann and tell her how much I loved the Til Tuesday video for "Voices Carry."  I bet no one ever talked to her about that.  Oh, and Magnolia.

I want to ask William Shatner about the combination to that safe, while we're at it.

Which begs the question:

Star Trek: Trekkies :: Best Show : ?

OK, OK, you've all had your snark at my genuinely emotional original post and my heartfelt subsequent responses...

The show being at a small theater on the outskirts of Weirdowood, Mr. F. Tompkins wandered (very briefly) around the courtyard, as did Ms. Brewster (for a longer time).

I see people whose work I like, under similar circumstances, on a not-infrequent basis.  I thought about going up and talking briefly with each of them - I would have praised Mr. Tompkins' under appreciated (really, Simple Machines speller?) work as Saul F. Tompkins and Ms. Brewster's excellent presence in the too-soon-cancelled Andy Richter Controls the Universe.

In the end, I didn't say anything.  I'm not particularly shy, and these two don't seem like the type of egotists who would respond absurdly - I'm looking at you, Dick Enberg - but it just didn't seem like The Thing That I Wanted To Do.

Tom gives good advice on this point - if you want to go up and say something, go up at an opportune time, say you appreciate what they do, get out - and perhaps I'll do that next time.  I talked to Tom, Jon and Ted Leo (for a longer time) at the Gathering of the FOT, and it was great, but that seemed like a more natural thing.

I've heard he really liked being asked about the lie detector sketch. Might want to soften him up by mentioning that.

And if you can, always try and get Mr Tompkins to sign something and then handshake his fist when he tries to hand you back your pen.

E.V., how do you respond when the citizens of Calgary mob you as you walk across the Stampede?

Evan I heard you are from Canada, do you know this one other guy I know from Canada? I think his name is Steve, he is from the middle somewhere.

To be fair, all 30 million of you live less than five feet from the border in a neat line stretching from Newfoundland to Victoria, right?  How hard is it to cautaulougue that population?

I wish Tom would have PFT on again. I want to call in and ask what that movie was that he was in with Daniel Day Lewis. It's bugging me that I can't remember.
