Introduction of the term "The Hut" to TBSOWFMU
« on: December 19, 2011, 02:50:30 PM »
Anyone (Omar, perhaps) know on what episode the term "The Hut" was used for the first time?  I want to hear it's introduction into the lexicon as well as Tom's reaction.  Thanks!

I want to say it was during a Jeff Cooper call (maybe the one on the Chain Fights CD), but I don't know for sure. Hopefully someone else will step up with more detailed info.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I can't accurately place the original use of "The Hut," although if the term is indeed used in that Coop call, that would certainly be a very early appearance.  I think it was used on occassion in the early years before appearing much more frequently around 2006-ish.

Great question, and one I was recently asking myself.

My gut instinct is it first appeared in the Craig Cooper call (the one from Jeff's son), also around '02-ish.

Weird trivia from the other direction: I don't believe the Warden of Newbridge Correctional, Bill Rutliffe, ever used "the hut" once during his 40-minute call this year.

I'm also curious as whether Tom or Jon came up with "the hut." Obviously, Jon gets to say all the Wursterisms, but they both script the calls. Then again, Jon is always Tweeting about "Locked Up Abroad," so maybe it's a prison culture thing he's found funny for a while now.
If I tried, I could probably make at least six figures for shaking my moneymaker.

I can confirm that "The Hut" comes from Wurster.

Omar, do you know of any Wursterisms that come *from Tom*?

In an interview this past summer Tom mentioned that it's he who is a big GG Allin "fan" (and thus the root of the references, I assume), whereas Jon is a KISS "fan." I found this to be very interesting.

Re: The Hut

I'm also thinking it may have come out of a Hot Rockin' Ronny call or Mike Sajak. Then again, some Wursterisms have somewhat surprising first appearances. Like, "Weirdowood." I believe that was first uttered by Zachary Brimstead.

I'm pretty sure the first "Weird-O-Wood" was from The Gorch's in-studio visit on 6/5/07.  Do you know of an earlier ZB utterance?

No specific ones, but they certainly exist.  Many, many characters and calls have sprung from marathon S&W conversations, so there was likely a constant back-and-forth riffage of terms/phrases that have appeared over the years.  As has been noted in many interviews, Wurster also likes to try to surprise Tom with stuff during the call.  I suspect, for example, his boundary-pushing sexual terms fall into this category, such as recent fellatio stand-in "mouth fun."  In a lot of cases, I think they are equally fascinated/amused with an idea or concept.  In the great AST Radio interview, they discussed how they both found cocaine references hilarious, which has resulted in many characters becoming avid skiers, rail captains, White Lady seducers, etc.

D'oh! Yeah, you're right. I got the ZB in-studio from May 6th 08 (the recent Gem) mixed up with the ZB call from '06.

I also may have gotten "Lipstick City" references confused, too.

You know what would be great is word-for-word transcribing of all the calls. I was thinking of ways to do this the other day, but it still seemed overwhelming.

I don't think Tom or Jon coined the term "The Butt Hut", but their use of one of the most stupidly hilarious colloquialisms ever created, let alone the abbreviation, is genius.

My favorite variation is "Los Hut."

Well, I think I just blew $30 on some software called "Express Scribe Pro." I thought it could -- at least -- automatically transcribe a very, very rough transcription of a call, but I can't even get it to do that. In fact, I can't really even get it to start.

I feel like taking Quad P's sidecar over to their offices and ramming them with a shopping cart.
