Chris Cornell's solo album with Timbaland producing received near-universal condemnation.
I never heard the entire album, but he played "Scream" on his recent Songbook tour and it held up lyrically enough that I had to come home and Google it before I realized it was part of those condemned sessions.
I think he can get away with experimental stuff, even though the production might date poorly, as long as he stays angry.
I always thought the Mike Patton / Björk stuff was pretty tacky, but being intentionally weird or perpetually on acid isn't what I was condemning.
