Philly visit advice.

It's weird that all my knowledge of Philadelphia comes from Philly Boy Roy
So apart from the Rocky Statue, what should I do or see while I'm there.?

Center City Pretzel Co - 816 Washington Ave
From Midnight til Noon  the front of this warehouse opens up and you can buy soft pretzels as they come off the conveyor oven for 3 for $1. They are delicious and you get to visit the part of Philly where everyone parks like a maniac wherever they want.

Mutter Museum - http://www.collphyphil.org/site/mutter_museum.html
It's a museum of medical oddities. It's completely gross, but also very interesting.

Also, don't forget your hoagies and peanut chews.

If you have kids or not even, the Franklin Institute is a pretty neat hands on type science museum.

I'm not much of a tour guide but I recommend the Mutter Museum, the art museum, Franklin Insitute. You can go do the whole Pat's and Geno's thing if you want cheesesteaks. Check out Beautiful World Syndicate if you're into records. You can check for sports or concerts before you come, there'll probably be something going on. And there's food everywhere. Hope that helps.

I was briefly a tour guide here.

When are you coming?

Anyways, the must see things are:

1) Independence Hall/Liberty Bell/Franklin Hall/etc. -- there are a bunch of old historic things that are free in what we call Old City. Franklin Hall is particularly interesting because of how bizarre and trippy it is.

2) The National Constitution Center and National Jewish History Museum are also in this neighborhood but aren't free (since they're not run by the US government). However, both are really great.

3) Reading Terminal Market -- This is at 12th and Arch and is a gigantic food court that rules. My wife and I usually eat here twice a month. It gets really crowded on weekends (especially if there's a big convention in town) but it's the best.

4) The Franklin Institute is pretty great -- especially if you have kids. It's on Ben Franklin Parkway which also has The Rocky Statue. And the Art Museum behind the Rocky Statue is pretty awesome.

5) Right by here in the Fairmount neighborhood is Eastern State Prison, which was the world's first penetientiary. This is probably my favorite museum in Philly. They get about a hundred requests per year from death metal bands who want to record a video in there, if that helps explain the atmosphere.

6) The Mutter Museum is this awesome medical oddities museum with horrific medical devices from years gone by.

I'll tell more later.

I visited Philly for the first time last year - the sandwiches at the Reading Terminal were way better than the famous cheesesteaks. I wish I could remember the stalls where the good sandwiches were, because they might have been the best sandwiches I've ever had. Just look for a long line and stand in it!

I'm pretty sure that Dinic's at Reading Terminal is where you'll find the longest line. They are known for their Roast Pork sandwich (which I think beats out any cheesesteak hands down).

Yes, it was a roast pork sandwich and it was without hyperbole one of the finest I have ever eaten.

That was DiNic's then, which is one of the best sandwiches in the world.

Philly is AWESOME for food.
