the immediate predecessor of the board
« on: May 30, 2007, 12:44:57 PM »
Is there any possibility of cleaning up the old board and locking it to future posts?  It is an important piece of FOT history, after all, and it's painful to see what's happened to it since we moved to this one.  If you lock it, Jason, I'd be willing to do the tidying, if you gave me the means.

If I remember the password the power shall be yours.
There was another board before that one, I'm not even sure if ti was hosted here.

That one's still around, and it hasn't been vandalized.  For FOT completists, both are essential reading, I think.

Wouldn't Petey have the password, if you've forgotten it?  Or Chris or Gord?

Post old threads......... GO!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was the nexus of the New Jersey summer and with the air conditioning out of service the studio was hotter than an equatorial smelting furnance. Wearing nothing but blue speedoes and a pair of brown leather sandals, Tom's sodden skin glistened like crisco under the low studio lights, the red and green LED's of the broadcast desk reflected playfully across his midriff.
"Get off my phone," he drawled as he cut off another hapless caller, simultaneously pushing up the fader to play a track from his favourite Band LP.
"Hey Tom." came a deep masterful voice from behind.
Tom swung his chair round and was rewarded by the sight of Officer Tom standing in the doorway. The sweat soaked light blue shirt of his cop's uniform had turned diaphonous and clung like a drowning sailor to every contour of his well defined chest, the dark outline of his nipples visible like bronze medals of masculinity.
Silence reigned for a full minute as each man admired the other, the admiration that only men can feel for one another, the admiration that is no stranger to those who've seen combat, worked construction or hosted a humourous 3 hour free form radio show.
To be continued........

Good times!

Apparently Petey changed his name to Raad_Man in the absense of Raad_Man 1.0 in the last days of the O.G. board.

This brings me back (ripple effect on the screen, sound of a harp playing...):

Hey everybody -

I'm really glad everybody enjoys using the FOT board as a place to post whatever you want to talk about, FOT or non-FOT subjects, personal/funny/opinion stuff, etc. I think it's great.

But things have been getting out of hand over the last two or three weeks. And I think with a few prudent moves, we can get things back to where they should be without losing any of the fun or freedom that we have.

First things first - there's been a general shift towards insulting people and viciousness that we can all back up a bit. And we're ALL guilty of it. So from this moment on, just do me a favor - when you're posting, just read it over before you hit' send'. If there are insults in the post, please strike them. Try to make your point without blasting your fellow FOT posters.

And I'm not playing favorites here - as I have said, ALL OF US have been guilty of insulting people or going too far with our line of humor. So I think we can ALL reign it in a bit.

Secondly, let's keep in mind that this is not necessarily a board of adults. You can DEFINITELY talk about adult stuff. NO PROBLEM with that - the last thing I want are people pulling their punches on the board! If that was the case, we might as well pack it up now.

But Petey and a couple other posters are young. So again, just THINK before you post!

More specifically, and from a personal POV, I've got to say that Raad-Man really blew it with his posts advising Petey regarding drugs and alcohol.  Raad-Man, you should know better. PETEY IS TWELVE! TWELVE! He's not a teenager yet!

And for you to attempt to shift the discussion onto his parents is shameful! The fact that Petey's dad temporarily banned him from this site is a credit to the man's parenting! He's out to protect his kid from people giving him BAD ADVICE!

And yes, it was VERY BAD ADVICE. Thank you to the Dark Overlord for speaking up the way only a parent could. If  you smoked weed and drank with your parents, Raad-Man, good for you. People can judge the results of that experiment by the content of your posts.

But you've got to realize that you are in the minority! Why can't you just let a great kid like Petey be a kid!? Again, HE'S TWELVE!

I was away from the board for the last couple weeks because the WFMU Marathon is so incredibly time-consuming. So I apologize for not speaking up earlier. And thanks to Gord and Chris for doing their part - to the person who accused Gord of 'not stepping in soon enough', all I can say is that Gord and Chris already give this board and the friendsoftom.com site much more of their talent and attention than I can ever repay them for. So it's not their responsibility to be the police of the board.

And Gordy - kudos on the decision to make Petey a moderator on the board! I'm sure you'll do a great job! You should change your little name-taggy thing to 'FOT Hall Monitor'!

So in conclusion, we all like reading and posting on this board. And I don't plan on banning anyone or kicking anyone off or deleting posts. But PLEASE just think before you post - that way we can keep this place truly special!

Thank you all so much!

Tom!

Thanks, Jason.  I will slowly slog my way through the garbage and toss it out.  It's a good thing I don't have to check out all the sites linked in order to decide whether to delete the posts.  I might be corrupted beyond recognition.

A question:  does disabling registration prevent guest posting, too?  I hope so.

You know, I'm so thick that it took me about an hour to realize that the name "Friends of Tom" perhaps had something to do with all the gay-porn-related spam.  Add to that Jason's fan fiction, and, well, everything is explained.

I'm really proud of my Capt Jack impressions on the old board. Oh what fun I had and a special thanks to Jason for a little help in one of the posts

Capt Jack gets a computer

Capt Jack looks for love

After a typical real call from the Capt

Tom wants a new Capt

Elections

I wish I saved the private messages one of Jacks pal sent me those were priceless. Oh what fun I had breaking balls. I did post as someone else but those are long gone, since they were really mean spirited.

So the first board debuted in November 2002.  The 5-year anniversary isn't far off!  FOT LIFE!!  (I was "JSizzler" on the first board)

Yeah Bruce, there's some embarassing stuff back there. Thanks for reminding us.

A certain poster writes on March 23rd 2003 -

"And before ANYBODY attempts to retort with the civilians getting killed line- I say the Iraqi civilian casualty count will be substantially lower than our WTC casulty count."

There was an awful lot of drama back then that we don't have these days. Arguments, bannings and trolls.

But there's also a whole lot of awesome -

The mercurial Gargoyla -
