The Best Show has been the juice which got me through so many tough times over the past seven years or so. I live in Helsinki so have always been a podcast listener, although at one point I had an early shift at work that enabled me to listen live. I always dreamt of calling in but never thought I had anything interesting to say (abject fear of being GOMPed/Heave Hoed/Bad Companied).
I first discovered WFMU because of a cool radio show on Monday or Tuesday mornings, but that ended soon afterwards. Then I found SSD and TBSOWFMU and all the other musical and magical programs. SSD and TBS remain the ones I come to each and every week for a laugh. I guess something will eventually fill this space in my heart and in my ears but I don't see how anything could replace the special feeling that Tom, Jon and Mike (and all the guests and good callers) brought to us all this time.
Before discovering WFMU, I'd never really been a financial donor of any regularity - maybe a UNICEF or WFP or disaster pledge every once in a while. Now I'm a mouse pledger for the past few years! Weird, that feeling of belonging.
