So...that new Tom tweet has me feeling really great about The Best Show coming back soon. What more does this guy gotta do to prove there is a huge audience for his work? What, a critically-acclaimed show wasn't enough? 13 years running an internationally-listened to radio show wasn't enough? Out of a small, independent radio station? Without the big money backing afforded to the Seacrests of the planet?
Somehow, someone was convinced to produce The Animal, Paul Blart, Mad TV, Brickleberry, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Midnite...the list of comedy dreck goes on for days. And yet something with a PROVEN track record gets shut down? And why? Because it wasn't based off of some podcast? So you're telling me if Tom rents a couple of rooms in someone's building like Scott Aukerman, IFC is good to go? Look, I'm not knocking Comedy Bang Bang. I like it. I listen to it all the time. But it's inferior comedy to the Best Show. And moreover, it should (and is) more difficult to translate that level of improv-based comedy to a TV set than Tom's comedy.
I miss Tuesdays. Life is hard. The Best Show made it a little more tolerable. It was more than just a respite from the ordinary. The show made you think. It exercised comedy muscles in ways that other programs can't, or don't. I guess life isn't always fair.
