The Ettes "Excuse" and Jodorowsky's Dune
« on: April 27, 2014, 01:25:27 AM »
Hi Tom.

Was the video for The Ettes' "Excuse" inspired by the failed Jodoroswky's Dune?  Just in case any explanation is needed, I'm thinking the beginning, where Patton Oswalt mentions that all the money earmarked for props was spent during pre-production on unnamed items.

If so, I love how you conceptualized what it would've been like to make this monstrous movie on a budget of a few bucks.  And the genius element that makes the video both true Tom-Scharpling-visionary-status and creates cerebral humor is the element that you can watch the video and laugh at the premise without any context and then laugh even harder when you realize the movie it seems to be poking fun at.

Quality stuff.  It also led me to check out THE ETTES who are one no-frill rock band if I've ever heard one.  Coco is the real deal.

Thanks for giving me all this stuff to analyze, Tom.  You're a good guy.

The Ettes are more akin to Jodorowsky's 'artist warriors' than Pink Floyd apparently, who'd prefer to 'eat hamburgers' than meet Alejandro to be in 'Dune'.
