Scharpling and comics
« on: October 16, 2014, 04:37:54 AM »
Hey posters,

I know Tom is a big Marvel fan and buds with Matt Fraction, so I was wondering what the best pairing of his writing talents and an existing title would be. Marvel has seen success with comedy-minded people writing their titles (ie Brian Posehn on Deadpool), and Tom could easily knock something out of the park. He mentioned on a interview in 2009 that he would love to do one, too http://marvel.com/news/comics/9157/famous_fanboys_tom_scharpling_pt_2.

I'd like to see him on something not too serious, like an Iron Fist or Hawkeye. Something street-level. Or maybe the Avengers open a branch in Newbridge.

What are your thoughts?

Fraction's Hawkeye already seems to have a Best Show-ish vibe, he even has Hawkeye say "Wait, what?!" a lot.
Would love to see it taken all the way through... Hawkeye relocates to Newbridge.

Fraction and at least one of his characters have been seen sporting a Newbridge shirt. I'm sure that's well documented somewhere on the forum.

I'd kill for some Iron Fist or Dr Strange penned by Tom. Or something dreadfully serious. A downbeat crossover between Swamp Thing and Galactus maybe.

Fraction dropped a lot of Best Show references in his run on Iron Man.

A few years ago there was a two-part interview with Tom on Marvel's website.

Tom also talked about comic books at http://fatlantern.blogspot.com/2013/07/interview-with-tom-scharpling.html

I need to read Hawkeye more - it'd make my day to see those references.

Also, to branch out from mainstream comics: Scharpling adapts Game of Thrones. He's already half way there with this:

Scharpling writes, Matt Reid illustrates. Boom.
