This morning I was giving a test, and passing the time catching up with the 7 Second Delay archives. It was from 3-4 weeks back, and Ken was holding on-air auditions for actual slots on the FMU Fall schedule.
At some point Ken challenges Andy to name any current shows, and he says something like "My friend Tom has a show, and his wife Terri has a show..."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DEAR GOD, IS TOM A POLYGAMIST?
-
Different Tom.
-
Tom Gnilprahcs
-
Different Tom.
He referred to the Tom in question as "WFMU's top bread-winner". Are there 2? It's like that Darren from work call on Hippie Justice.
-
Yes.
-
I like to refer to them as "The Toms"
-
Los Dos Todds - as seen on Shout!
-
THX!
-
Now that "Where's Jonesy" story makes a little more sense.
-
The Tom he was talking about works in Accounts Receivable. Without that guy, none of the bills would get paid.
The object is to get yourself into a position where you're a profit draw within a company, then you start getting all the respect and accolades.

Why is this post cracking me up so much? I just snorted!

Yeah, unfortunately, with its massive budget (sound machines, all the guests' travel, Tom's bloated benefits package) the Best Show is a tremendous cost center - albeit a hugely ratings-successful one. Because Tom won't allow commercials.

But Buffcoat, you're missing the revenue stream from product placements. According to their latest Form 10-Q, TBSOWFMU and Sharpling, Inc. brought in more than $256,714 last quarter from on-air product placements. These kinds of advertisers include a flea market in Eatontown, 20th Century Fox (Speed Racer), Marky Ramone Inc., and Benny Tudino's, to name a few. Gene Simmons is listed as an account receivable -- deadbeat.

I'm just amazed that Dave gets to listen to WFMU while giving tests.
-
All that product placement revenue isn't enough to pay for some of Tom's less savvy business decisions, though. Remember how much he was paying for the phone line supposedly reserved for show?
-
And that podcast ain't cheap, you know.
-
You'd be hard pressed to get anyone to admit this in public, but I've heard rumors that the podcast costs are a tax writeoff for Mennen.

Down south we got these fancy doo-dads we call headphones.
-
I love this thread.
Do you folks all live in South NoBridge?
-
Well, I live "down south".

Not to mention all that sweet Matador and DC Snipers payola money that Tom gets under the table.

That Panera Bread bread barely covers security costs.

Yeah, the other Tom organises bread raffles, but fixes them so that he always wins.
Why?
