is anyone watching this shit?
I recently caught up on the first five episodes and i wondering what other people think.
personally I'm pretty into it, even though a show featuring the most annoying actor from buffy and the most annoying actor from battlestar seemed like it would be really bad.
but i was pleasantly surprised, nothing is really stand out amazing yet but it's thoroughly entertaining. apparently the 6th episode (guest starring patton oswalt!!!) really kicks the season into high gear so i'm really excited for that. some of Joss Whedons stuff tends to drag at first so i'm hoping that it will really go somewhere exciting and awesome.
-
On paper, Dollhouse shouldn't work. It is positively addictive though. I really enjoyed Joss Whedon's Firefly as well.
-
Also enjoying it, and really excited for the actor playing Alpha to show his face. I'm a big fan of his. But yes, The Dush is not my favorite.
-
I don't like it much. But I'll stick it out because I can't imagine it's going to continue to be this unremarkable with Whedon at the helm. Every now and then there's a little flash of him, and you can see what the series could be like. So far, though, it's pretty drab and pretty exploitive. And Eliza is painful.
All in all, I'd way rather that the very short-lived Drive had been allowed to continue.
Kings now . . .

I am watching it and its okay. Supposedly it kicks into high gear at episode 6 (and apparently Patton is on that one?). I think its a good-ish show so far but there are enough lame things about it that if it doesn't deliver in the next few I will be done with it.
Dushku is fine when she is acting, but when she gets into her persona of a "tough girl" (what I imagine she is like in real life), it is just the worst ever.

Aw man, you're hatin' on Helo? Not cool.

helo is terrible, give me one piece of dialogue hes had in the whole series thats not essentially "cylons are people too!!! my wife is a cylon!! arrgghhhh!"

I just like him, I guess.
-
I like it. Actually, I don't like it, but I'm into it.
I read that about the next episode too, so I'm holding out. It seems like it gets better every week, so I think that's a good sign. I hate the character of Topher...although I guess he's supposed to be annoying. And Eliza Dushku is doing a decent job of playing different characters--and she really has the blank robot face down.
The doctor with the face scars is a cutie. But ten to one she gets with Topher. Was she ever on Buffy? I feel like I've seen her before.

If I'm not mistaken, the first 5 episodes were not written by Joss Whedon, and Fox chose to show them in a different order than Joss wanted. Firefly, anyone? I wonder if the quality of the show will improve when they got to the Whedon-penned eps?

I'm pretty sure the pilot episode was written by Joss Whedon. It was the second pilot after Fox wanted a clearer start to the series.

I told a couple people last week, "I'll probably get into it sometime after it's canceled." And, you know, available in a ridiculous deluxe Blu-Ray package for the dozen or so people actually interested.
I really like Joss Whedon, and most of his work, but it feels like he's always just a little bit out of step with the times. It's hard to imagine him ever having a hit, unfortunately.
-
I think it's starting out pretty slow, but I still like it a lot. I loved the episode called "The Target," where the outdoorsman hunts Echo.
I'm hoping that Echo eventually becomes totally self-aware, even in her "tabula rosa" state, and begins to fight the dollhouse corporation from the inside.
Whatever. Joss Whedon rules. Firefly needs to come back.

I think Topher is the only comedic relief in the show. So I like him. Actually, maybe that's what Dollhouse is lacking. Buffy was so much more comedic than Dollhouse so far, which is kind of why I want Echo to become self aware and team up with Boyd and then make, like, "man-reaction" jokes.

Hey,
Patton Oswalt was on tonight! Of course, he was really good, that voice...
I admit to having been a huge Buffy/Angel fan, so I have to stick with Dollhouse, although I found last week's cult invasion episode unwatchable.
-

wha
-
Watched the most recent ep. Still not madly impressed. Something just isn't clicking for me. Next week's looks promisingly chaotic, though, what with all those actives impersonating federal agents.
-
Yeah, this show needs to be funnier.
-
how was Patton?

Well, I mean, think about it. Buffy and Angel were in-joke, self-reference fests. They only did well compared to the other stuff on UPN/WB. Firefly was a western in space (enough said.) Dr. Horrible's demographic is basically fans of his three other series, minus those who can't stand musicals.
I think executives are expecting this stuff to appeal to a mass audience, but I don't know why.

Two things really bothered me about this episode that was supposed to be so wonderful, the turning point of the series, etc., etc., etc.
First, how was it possible to imprint Echo with a reasonable facsimile of Rebecca (I think that was the P.O. character's wife's name)?
Second, I was massively annoyed that the neighbor turned about to be an active, especially after the folderol with Victor.
Make that three things: what a pointlessly complicated way of getting rid of the naughty handler.
I could probably list more if the episode weren't already drifting out of my brain.
P.S. Patton did fine, akaJudge.

maybe you should just watch kings

I will watch both. And I will continue to irritate you with negative comments about Dollhouse as long as it amuses me and happily celebrate positives when I perceive them.

I did like how the most recent episode provoked actual emotional reactions from me. The story of the rich dude who wants his wife back was a bit far fetched, but the ending definitely made me a bit misty. I'm also bummed that Mellie is a doll. I actually thought it would be better if she had been killed...for the story's sake. Not that I don't like her character. But it might have been interesting...a little more out of left field than "ooooo...another character we didn't think is a doll is a doll!"
Also I dug the fight scene. I never had hate for Eliza. Faith was a favorite character on Buffy, and I like when she's "badass".
The television interview thing was kind of weak, though. Can't they make something look like it's actually a news report in this day and age, instead of using some cheesy interlacing effect? As for the humor,I did notice more Whedon-esque jokes in this episode. It's an improvement, anyway.
The exploitative undertones of the show, however, continue to make me uncomfortable. There was lots of eye candy to ogle on Buffy, but it feels a little out of control on Dollhouse.

Dolls are teh new Cylons, then?

i think you're supposed to be uncomfortable.
It's pretty clear we're not supposed to think that the dollhouse is a good thing and i think over the course of the series the main theme is going to be that no matter how much they try to make these people objects they will always be people. that's why they still retain things after being wiped.
i'm positive this show wasn't designed to be an empty hot people showcase
-
I have a stupid question. Is Mellie supposed to be TV fat?
-
She's as fat as Kelly Clarkson, so yes.
-
So sad, remember "Lorn" the good demon, who was played by Andy Hallet on Angel? Andy Hallet died last weekend of congestive heart failure at age 33.

That's really sad to hear. No matter if I can get behind Dollhouse or not, Angel (particularly the very last season) was amazing, in no small part due to this man. Too young to go!

Renewed!

I enjoy stories about strong women, but the plot and cast just doesn't interest me at fucking all.
-
I'm glad it was renewed. It improved so much in the later episodes, it gave me hope for season 2.
-
Very pumped about the renewal. I have very high hopes for season 2 just because of the fact that a new Whedon series got past a single one. I think they'll have a lot more episodes dealing with the overall story now which I'm pumped about. Go Fox for actually making a smart move!

I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE NEW FIREFLY EPS., THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
