Title: Hecklers.
Post by: P.W. on February 03, 2010, 12:28:45 AM
I wanted to try and get on air at the beginning of the show when Tom mentioned the Todd Glass show he attended, but while on hold I felt the show going in a different direction and hung up (notice the restraint practiced here [To come clean, I'm still learning]). (Now witness the restraint unleashed) Folks, if you happen to go to a comedy show, don't heckle. I wanna hear the jokes no matter how good or bad they are. If you MUST heckle, please make SURE you're funnier than the man on stage.

I'm talking to you Spaceland on 1/31. Zip it next time, or bring it to the stage.

Yeah that heckler thing was irritating on Sunday at Spaceland! I loved that the crowd hated the hecklers too...they don't  add to a comedy show. Just let the comic die a silent death. I need to hear the podcast now - I missed the show tonight, dagnabbit.

Old Neil got 'em for you! That dude was doing the "You Suck" thing like out of the side of his mouth like he was a fucking Jeff Dunham. He didn't have the guts to do what you were doing, let alone shout at you with undisclosed lips from the floor. I had a good night, otherwise. Keep up the stand-up!

Oddly enough, that dude (somehow) tried befriending me on Facebook. Who does that?! HOw did he know who I was?! And then today, while at a stop light on Los Feliz and Griffith, that one dude that Brendon Walsh pulled up to the stage that looked like Kevin McDonald's little brother, made a left turn in front of me.

It's like they were born to be annoying (and not sharp witted).

I've seen Dave Atell twice at Charlie Goodnight's in Raleigh.

The first time, more than half the audience was drunk.  Surprise.  Dave asked early in the show if it was anyone's birthday, then if anyone was in the military.  The guy behind me kept yelling out, throughout the show, "It's MY birthday... aaaand I'm in the military."  Maybe it was slightly amusing once, fella.  Most of the jokes got stepped on.

The second time, Dave drank about five gin and tonics during the show, which was the second one of the evening.  By the end of the second show (surprise, again) he literally (and I mean literally in its proper sense) could not finish his jokes.  The last joke went like this:

"So these guys from the army were out in the desert... One of em says... and a camel.  Fuck a camel.  Uhhhh... [silence].  Goodnight, everybody."

Wow, that was pretty amazing. I just recently listened to Todd Glass's album Thin Pig and liked it a lot.

On a side note: does anybody else get Todd Glass and Jimmy Pardo mixed up in their head sometimes?

That was wonderful. They never have anything better to say. At least she got free drinks, the particular heckler I'm speaking of left WEARING one of the five drinks clutched under Neil Hamburger's arm. I little harsh, sure, but it was just.

The funny business is a tough business.

Just be a good audience member, and only let them hear you laugh.

This was great. And it's Shushing 101 -- a nice tie-in to Laurie's recent calls.

This is true, mayor. You did slap that dick out of my mouth once, though. You were all like, "Dude, THIS is a record store and THAT is a listening station!"

(that intentionally made no sense.)

For some reason, the fact that she cried when talking to management makes me hate her much, much more. I guess just because it's patently manipulative behavior.

Not only Shushing 101, but also Just Desserts!

There's an episode of Never Not Funny with Todd where he discusses the whole incident in great detail, including some fallout from the woman.

Edit: NNF 405 is the one.

As much as I don't care for much of Jamie Kennedy's work I think his Heckler documentary is mostly awesome and might have been less good if made by someone who doesn't suck so bad.

Bluh, really? The first half is alright but when he tries to yell at critics for hating him in The Mask 2 it was EXCRUCIATING.

I've been very fortunate with the comedy shows that I've seen, but I still remember watching Eugene Mirman open for the Hold Steady years ago and he had to put up with some drunken idiots. He pulled it off quite well.

Also, I've never seen a better comedy audience than at the Paul F. Tompkins show at Largo. It's all class there!

Yeah, I hated him in those critic interviews, I think at a point it became too personal for HIM but I liked what the film said about hecklers and I like what everyone else in it said about critics. Criticism has become to matter-of-fact and hateful. I'd much rather read a review that was somewhat constructive rather than just a platform for scathing, sarcastic one-liners.

The scathing one-liner reviews are usually reserved for movies so bad, they're beneath criticism: ya know, like The Mask 2.

I think self-important critics are really obnoxious too, but Jamie Kennedy doesn't have a shred of credibility to call them out on their bullshit. People in shit houses shouldn't throw turds.

I believe it was called Son of Mask not Mask 2 which is in production with Cher and Sam Elliot.
