On a related note, a few weeks ago on NPR they were talking about the Tea Party (or GOP or conservative or whatever)'s "Woodstock" and how they rock bands and rappers, and just before one of them started rapping my wife shut off the radio. No matter. I knew exactly how the rap was gonna go (although I missed the rapper's name. Could be Hi-Caliber (http://www.examiner.com/x-5697-Grassroots-Politics-Examiner~y2009m12d3-Right-Wing-Tea-Party-rapper-HiCaliber-is-armed-to-rhyme-Obama-down/), I don't know, let's say it is): "My name's Hi-Caliber and I'm here to say, the Tea Party Movement is here to stay." BOOM. I should have been a rapper.Re: "Get Metsmarized"

I know! It totally rhymes, and it gives a succinct picture as to the identity and interests of the person who is singing.

OMG is this good? I would probably buy this based on the title alone ...

Another favorite is of course, "My name's _______ and I'm here to say...."

Do you know what's sick? I'm actually mad I got that wrong.
Because of the Best Show, I purchased a Wawa franchise in Chadds Ford, PA.

My daughter fell in love with ABBA because of TBS. She was just learning how to sit up when the ABBA Box was in the midst of it's reign on TBS and was into them immediately. She got the Definitive Collection and the DVD for her 2nd birthday, and the book and box set for Christmas. She has looked at the book so many times that pages are falling out and I've had to tape the book back together.

The LA Nuggets box.
This is *sort of* a purchase, but we took our kids to America's Incredible Pizza* this weekend. They had go-karts, and I thought of the podcast I'd listened to the day before. Somehow I'd never actually gone go-karting in my life, and Tom's words echoed in my head about "driving 60 or 70 miles an hour, parking, and going 20 miles an hour." My four-year-old loved it, though.
* which felt like a cross between a Simpsons episode and a Best Show rant. And the pizza ain't so incredible.
No no no no--the mental image of that big-headed dork in an erotic frenzy was never meant to occur in conjunction with a lush Modigliani nude.

You know what the worst part of it is?
It's an audiobook.
I not only got the Timewaster Letters (twice, as I gave away one copy) but the Timewaster Diaries on cd. What fun!

Found in a vinyl copy in a dollar bin.
The Best Show did remind me how much I used to love Clifford.
My dad was coming over to help put up drywall last weekend, and was at a yard sale with some vinyl, and picked some up for me because it was cheap. One of the records was this: (http://www.shewan.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/07_Tales+from+Topographic+Ocean.jpg)
When he told me he was picking that up, I laughed and told him to grab it immediately. He didn't know why I was laughing, I couldn't really explain it, but now I've got it. Well worn double gatefold. Probably would sound better coming out of a wristwatch with MEGABASS, but whatever.
Not a purchase that Best Show is entirely to thank by any means as there were so many factors, but some credit needs to be given to the Best Show for the patch.
I was wrestling with the idea of quitting in 2009, and hearing Tom talk so plaintively and reasonably about "grown-up time" (and giving Fredericks shit for smoking week after week) helped push me towards quitting. Funny how a virtual stranger can talk sense about something everyone around me had been brow-beating for years!
So, I made a new years resolution 2009/2010. After twenty-two years of heavy smoking (started when I was a young teen), I smoked my last cigarette. Went on the patch for two months, had a severe allergic reaction, went off the patch, and did the rest fists clenched.
Over 18 months later and I still haven't had even a drag. Nothing. Nada. Nyet. Hardest thing I've ever done (which is saying alot), but so worth it.
If you want a little help quitting, listen back to that stretch of shows!
So go Best Show, and go cessation! ;)
I gave Led Zeppelin IV another chance after hearing the past couple of weeks' shows. Upon reconsideration, it turns out that I only like three out of the eight songs ("The Battle of Evermore" - Sandy Denny vocals!! - "Misty Mountain Hop" and "When The Levee Breaks") but what three songs they are! "Black Dog," "R&R" and "Stairway" are just too painfully reminiscent of high school.
