Nixonland is a slog, and a depressing one, but every time I read about the Tea Party I keep thinking back to it. So it's probably at least somewhat useful.

Also: I bought the Cherry Valence's TCV3 after hearing Tom play "Sunglasses and Headlights", but unfortunately there wasn't anything on the album I liked as much. I guess that's the music critic equivalent of the "sometimes the b'ar eats you" scenario.

I read Nixonland before Tom did and I didn't find it a slog, though I am generally interested in the history of the period.  In fact, I found it pretty brilliant and it made me want to read the author's previous book, about Barry Goldwater.  That Tom thought so highly of it made me think more highly of Tom.

There have been more that come on the basis of FOT recommendations. Honestly, I'd say that the Best Show is responsible for the bulk of my cultural knowledge these days.

See, this is why I can overlook Tom's occasional dislike of stuff I enjoy -- I gotta have at least some respect for anyone who can go to bat for solo McCartney, Madlib and Jay Reatard.

Re: "Get Metsmarized"

A quality rap always includes: "______ ______ is my name, _______ ________ is my game."

I know! It totally rhymes, and it gives a succinct picture as to the identity and interests of the person who is singing.
On a related note, a few weeks ago on NPR they were talking about the Tea Party (or GOP or conservative or whatever)'s "Woodstock" and how they rock bands and rappers, and just before one of them started rapping my wife shut off the radio. No matter. I knew exactly how the rap was gonna go (although I missed the rapper's name. Could be Hi-Caliber, I don't know, let's say it is): "My name's Hi-Caliber and I'm here to say, the Tea Party Movement is here to stay." BOOM. I should have been a rapper.

Back on topic, I just got Ted Leo and The Pharmacists' "The Oldest House" 7" 'on eBay cause I was stick of hearing everyone bragging about getting it on the last episode. The only store that had it, Newbury Comics in the Providence Place Mall,  wasn't even listed as taking part in RSD. None of the other shop had it.

OMG is this good? I would probably buy this based on the title alone ...

Yes! It's fantastic. It has remained in high rotation for a couple of years now.

I bought Julie Klausner's book, PFT, and Ted Leo. All top notch.

Another favorite is of course, "My name's _______ and I'm here to say...."

Truck Nuts or TruckNutz.  Show some respect for marketing people, young lady.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!
