Hi, I'm Daniel, a friend got me into the show not too long ago, and I've been burning through the archives. As per suggestion, here's a new thread with my entry in the video/art contest.
The embedding HTML doesn't seem to be catching on this board, so here's the URL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhy4yZ_k3yk
If anyone knows which HTML to paste over between the YouTube tags for the purposes of this forum, let me know and I'll properly embed it. Thanks for watching.

That was awesome.
-
Wow, that was fast. Thanks, dude.
-
that was definitely awesome.
-
yay!
-
Amazing!!!
That pig's face, post-GOMP, almost has me feeling bad for it.
-
Fantastic entry.
I love it so much that I therefore hate you a little bit - mostly the love part, though.
Hysterical.

Haha. "Gomp." That sounds like something that would try to kill Teddy Ruxpin.

Wow, that's excellent! I think we might have a winner...

That'd be pretty flattering, but the contest and its duration are both kind of ill-defined. I think we'll see a few more surprises before I get my free mug (or whatever the prize is).

hysterical, more puppet Tom
-
Love it.
-
Puppet Tom kind of looks like Puppet Imus, with the Ranch Dude Hat and everything. Still, I loves it. The mug is a nice touch!

Can you make one of those every week, in like real time with the show?
I would watch it.

Not out of the question! I'm trying to expand the puppets into a show where I'm writing the material, but if WFMU needed a freelance puppet-man, I definitely wouldn't say no!

Awesome! I was laughing inappropriately at work.
-
I just can't stop laughing.. that might be the funniest thing on youtube.
-
.. and there are apparantly some really funny things on youtube.. people falling down stairs and stuff.
-
The bar has suddenly been set way high.

Also, ARE YOU SITTING DOWN, babies AND puppies, often INTERACTING.
Which is largely why I have to use Peapod grocery delivery to be alive now.

Top-Notch work there Kibblesmith! Can't wait to see more come from your way.
-
This is really great!
REALLY great :o
-
Kibblesmith,
Great work! And I agree with Josh, that short reaction shot of the pig did make me feel sorry for it. BTW, what are you using to video your puppet shows? The quality (resolution/color) is off-the-charts better than most of the videos posted on YouTube.
-
I'm a big fan of the sunglasses and the bandana on puppy-Tom.
-
Holy.Moley.
-
And let me say as a professional video editor, your editing skills are truly hall-of-fame worthy!
Favorite edit point: the giggiling pig at 0:50
I love you so much, I hate 'ya.

Reminded me of Dr. Johnny Fever.

Hey, Rainer. I use the Sony DCR VX2000, I don't think they make it anymore, but it's a miniDV pro-sumer version of the PD-150, basically the same camera without the XLR mic ports. It's a 3 CCD model, so its colors are already pretty sharp, and then I boosted the contrast a little for the interiors to turn my blackdrop into a void. YouTube compression desaturates everything a little, but I like the way it turned out.
Omar: I actually thought Hesh was kind of funny, or at least facilitated some funny with last week's presumptuousness combined with this week's doormat impression. I'm pretty excited about the final chapter of his epic trilogy.
Thanks everybody, for the feedback, especially the on-air mention. It's kind of staggering.

Hesh, Act I definitely facilitated the funny leading up to the classic rope-a-stooge GOMP. However, I find it hard to drum up much excitement for the finale after the extremely sluggish and uninspired Act II. He's out of his league -- a one-man Goshen.

Whaaa?? I assumed that was HD or DVC. How come I can't get my 3 CCD Canon XL2 to look that good on youtube?
How in God's name did you get that file under 100 MB? How big was the original?
If you use Final Cut Pro or Compressor and can find it in your heart/schedule to walk me through your compression workflow, I'd name my first son Kibblesmith Kibblesmith Burns and he'd just have to deal with that.
I put myself way in the hole to make online stuff that looks like your online stuff, and after 2 years, I'm still doing something wrong in the very last stage of post. There are a million options and I just can't seem to find the right combination to maintain quality without grossly inflating the file size. It's been the bane of my creative existence. If you're down, maybe we could start a new thread for tech talk, so as not to distract from the much-deserved love-fest in this one.
Please help me, kibblesmith, you brilliant bastard!

Sorry, Dorvid, I can't risk the phrase "Kibblesmith Burns" appearing in Google. That's like saying Bloody Mary in the mirror.
What I can tell you is that, while I'm not much of a natural tech-guy myself, I use a Sony program called Vegas, render a raw .avi at default uncompressed settings, which makes a file of ungodly size. Then, to get it under 100 mb, I re-render that finished raw .avi as Mpeg-2, or for other occassions, I open that .avi in Quicktime pro, and use their recommended templates for filesize/quality/download speed and make .mov files.
I hope some of that helps. If you're using the XL2 (heart flutter) your footage should look aces, assuming you have enough light to begin with, which no amount of post can fix.

You rule, kibblesmith Sr.
I have a couple super quick followups and requests for clarification but will start a separate thread here (http://www.friendsoftom.com/forum/index.php/topic,860.0.html).
If you tire of it or if we get lost in mac-PC translation, maybe one of the other pros in here might be able to help.
I feel obnoxious soliciting you guys for this stuff but it's been getting to me for a while and I think I'd get more done if I could get over this compression hump.
But hey! If you're ever in the DC area, you can borrow my camera for free. That goes for the lot of you video nerds.
Thank you!

Haha, I think I actually just felt my chances drop.

damn!
i was recently buzzing in kickthebobo's ear about getting another Tom On... going with this exact segment, and here this comes along and completely nails it!
my thanks to another video wiz who was made a brilliant audio moment even more hillarious.
come on Adult Swim, are you paying attention? 4 - 5 great GOMPS, each set to a different puppet/cartoon likeness of Tom, don't tell me there isn't room on your schedule for this!

Word. Nice work, Kibblesmith.

I watched this a bit ago but didn't get a chance to post and say excellent job on the video. There are a lot of good submissions but I think this may be the best one so far.

That joke actually became funny while watching this entry. Good Job
