Jerk, Shake and Vibrate was good, but a little uneven. Jimmy Soul's "Take Me To Los Angeles" and Lee Moses "How Long Must I Wait" are worth the price of admission.

Now that I think about it, there's one comp that rates as "pretty good" in my book, but it has two of my favorite songs on it. "All Tore Up" can be found on Crypt Records, and it features two of my absolute FAVORITES, hands down. Lee Moses "Bad Girl I&II" and Carol Jones' "Don't Destroy Me." Those two are as good as it gets. The rest of the album isn't too bad, but it pales in comparison.

I like the Crypt Records comp Lookey Dookey a whole bunch.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I've really been enjoying this one:

It's an overview of the music produced by the Jamaican community in Toronto. More soul/funk than reggae. You can listen to one of the songs here: Chips-Chicken-Banana Split by JoJo and the Fugitives.

Often overlooked, always fantastic: the Mastercuts series.

This was one of my first CDs. I still love it.

Some good bands on there. I always wanted them to do a volume 2, but I realized they probably ran out of good cartoon theme songs...

as far as comps for the sake of fun nostalgia go, i did enjoy this in my youth.  i watched a lot of old cartoons/shows when i was a kid, making me familiar with the themes on this comp before my time.  not to mention, anything "modern" at the time i was exposed to via VHS or laser disc.

i also enjoyed this fun comp:

Some of the French (and Turkish) stuff that Beth has posted in the Downloads section of this very forum has been of the toppest of all notches.

Aww.... thanks Samir.

For a great series of top compilations, check out Terre T's playlist from the Cherry Blossom Clinic's Top Best Great Comp's from 2008. Every one of these were really good.

Ditto on the Beth gifts.

I got the #7 in the Eccentric Soul series and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Pretty much all of the Yellow Pills comps are great if you're craving a power pop fix. I'm pretty sure, if he were still with us, Power Pop Pop Pop would approve of the collection. I'm also pretty sure that pills/fix pun I just made would have made him fly into an uncontrollable rage. I'm sorry, Quad-P.

I also approve of all six volumes of The Sound of Leamington Spa. There are gems on each volume.

Also, that Sound of Music tribute Waaaaaaaaah Records put out (I always forget how many A's are in the label's name) is pretty great, but I have decided I am mostly disappointed with Blueboy's cover of "My Favorite Things." And I like Blueboy. And that song.
Too soon?
