This fall too...supposedly the bookings for Hopscotch Fest have been quite impressive.
Can I use the "F-word", Tom?

Wow. The Triangle is going to be insane this spring (insane for North Carolina, or so I thought).

Cat's Cradle is one of the top indie (whatever that means) clubs in the country, I think.  The Orange Peel in Asheville also has a lot of "gets," too, including one of the two sets of Smashing Pumpkins shows awhile back.

With Mountain Goats, it doesn't hurt that John Darnielle lives in Durham.  His sometime drummer has recently re-relocated back here, too, from what I've read.  What's that guy's name again?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I've never seen Black Lips either and they're coming to Columbus soon but I'm unsure whether I'll go. Do they still do gross stuff onstage? I've heard stories about them drinking their own pee onstage and stuff like that, which I have no desire to see.

I saw them twice and they didn't do anything particularly revolting onstage.

How 'out-there' can those Black Lips shows be? That Good Bad Not Evil album I heard was some of the tamest garage rock I've ever heard.

I remember hearing from more than one source that there was onstage urination and drinking of said urine. Or maybe I'm combined half-remembered stories about Rod Stewart and G. Gallin.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

I've seen the photographs.

they have calmed down alot in recent years but they're shows have always been pretty wild in the past. nudity, pissing, spitting, making out with each other, etc.

i've seen them alot of times but the most tame shows have been in the last couple of years when they started getting more popular after good bad not evil.

they're still really fun to see, it's not that they've calmed down just reigned in some of the shock elements

i dunno, i guess if you've been to alot of crazy punk shows it's nothing really that "out there" but i could see it freaking out your average rock fan.

It sounds like the same thing that happened to King Khan.

the black lips are a tamer breed now; jay reatard was following the same path before, well, you know.

at any rate, i know i'm late...this is a tough one alex p.

personally, my decision would have to come purely from ticket price and venue.  if neither of those are a deal breaker for you, consult the ouija board.
