Ok here we go...
I'm currently raising money for the ASPCA through the "March for the Animals" that's going on in Baltimore on April 20th. Most of you have probably already seen my signature(s) pushing for donations, or my posts on other websites, but I figured I'd give it another push here.
Only 25% of dogs and cats that enter animal shelters are adopted.
56% of dogs and 71% of cats that enter animal shelters are put to sleep. More cats are euthanized than dogs because they are more likely to enter a shelter without any owner identification. Spay and neuter programs have made headway in reducing some of these numbers, but there are still millions of animals killed each year because of lack of space and adequate resources in shelters like the ones the Maryland SPCA runs.
I have shelter cats. Everyone in my family has them too. I know lots of people who have adopted their best friends from little animal shelters all over the country. But there are people out there who just can't afford to adopt furbabies...
If you're one of those people who always wanted to help animals, but couldn't adopt one, or if you want to show your support for homeless animals across the country, today is your lucky day!
If you can give any nominal amount to the ASPCA, you can make a difference:
$11 pays for one feline leukemia test
$25 vaccinates 20 dogs for kennel cough
$43 provides flea treatment and heartworm protection for a dog
$100 spay surgery for a cat
$300 pays for an animal’s care at our adoption center until it is adopted. Includes vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, food, and care.
So far through the very very very generous donations of my friends and family, I've raised $550. I want to keep going. If you can spare a dollar, ten dollars, or maybe even fifty, I'd be so grateful for your donation.
