Punch Drunk Love
« on: April 25, 2008, 07:02:00 PM »
A friend of mine recently watched PDL.  When he asked me about the the reason for  the car crash in the beginning of the movie I was unable to tell him the reason behind it.  Can any one explain this opening scene of the movie?  Also the harmonium represents emily watson right? and when he saves the harmonium from the oncoming truck this is a forshadowing of Barry Egan and the  blonde brothers. Am i right?

I think the crash represents the random violence in Barry's inner-life, keeping him from the normalcy he desperately craves. That's why he dances in supermarkets.

apMike would be the guy to ask about this, though.  He's a big fan of ambiguous moments in great movies.
