Why all the haters in this thread? I think it's cool that Nike selected a pretty good band for their party. A band like No Age is walking away with a couple grand max for a regular sold out club date. They aren't millionaires or anything, and a private event will probably be their best pay day all year. If you wouldn't accept that check, then you probably don't have any financial concerns in the first place.

That wasn't really my problem. It was originally going to be a free show at the Marcy Building, and that's how they initially promoted it. Then they moved it to the Paris Theater in Nicky Hilton's club and changed it to a private event. That's kind of a dick move, and I was butthurt over it when I first heard about the switcheroo.

I'm over it now and don't really care, mostly because I had a shitload of fun at the Reigning Sound show. Reigning Sound > No Age, it's just a fact.

I'm in the same boat ~ I work for a multinational corporation as a means to get by.

I don't think I should garner any love or respect for it though.  As to whether I should be actively criticized?  Meh, depends on what your sensitivities are.  If someone wanted to brand me as corporate scum or something, I wouldn't take it too personally.  Maybe they're kind of right.

I saw No Age two weeks ago and enjoyed it. I did see that their show in Cambridge, MA had a poor turn-out, so I can't blame bands for taking the money and running when they need exposure/moolah. The whole music industry's crazy now anyways.
