Marfa sounds cool. A secret about small towns is, with a small enough town, it's possible to move in and more or less mold it into the town you want if you're into that kind of thing. A friend moved into a small town in IL and put a lot of his own time and money into reviving some of the shops and buildings in town, and having festivals in the town including re-enactments of temperance advocates with axes smashing up whiskey barrels, all kinds of fun stuff. Everybody wins.

...except the whiskey barrels.  :'(

The population of a town doesn't really tell you how "small" it feels.  Red Bank is right in the NY Metro area so it isn't exactly isolated.  Meanwhile a town like Fort Collins Colorado, though larger in population, feels a lot smaller since it's relatively far from other population centers.

Surprised they picked Mill Valley over Fairfax. Miss being a kid in West Marin. Good place.
