Relay for Life 2010
« on: November 25, 2009, 08:05:05 PM »
hey FOTs,

some of you may remember last year my attempts to raise money for Relay for Life.  my mother was finishing her chemo and radiation treatments and Anna Ives' (father, Zac Ives of Goner Records) auction was in full swing.

for those of you unfamiliar with Relay for Life, it's an event with the American Cancer Society to help raise money against cancer- ALL kinds of cancer(s).  the fact that this event covers all walks of tribulation that come with being diagnosed with a very scary, and seemingly unstoppable, disease, is what draws me to it.  the fact that my mother was a supporter for years prior to her diagnosis makes it personal.

with that being said, i have plenty of good news!

for the FOT who replied to my tweet regarding Relay for Life, do not fret if you can't donate to this cause now.  with the holidays arriving, i don't expect anyone to fork out donations.  this fundraiser will run until April 2010, with plenty of time to spare before the actual relay event.  hold onto your wallets because in january, i'm kicking things into high gear.

also, for every FOT who donates, i've got a surprise for you.  no matter how much you donate, expect a special thank you.  i will provide details in the near future.  in addition, we have some very AWESOME contributions from participating FOT to help the cause.  these details will also solidify in the very soon future- stayed tuned!

for now, i want to thank everyone who has already donated.  seriously, you don't know how much i wish i could give you a humongous hug and a smooch on the cheek; you gave me goosebumps and brought me to near tears.  it is truly appreciated and will not go unnoticed.

at any rate, here is a link to my donation page: main.acsevents.org/goto/iambaronvontito

spread the word to everyone not on the FOT board- friends, family, co-workers, non-forum FOT- this is very important.  also, please, no hard feelings if you do not participate or donate.  honestly, this is work that comes from the heart, not your purse.

thanks again everyone.  i will post again soon!

I actually played a gig in early '06 for a Relay for Life event.  It's a really great cause and it's definitely worth donating and spreading the word around for!

good news, everyone!

the holidays are over and i am getting things together to make this a great fundraiser; unfortunately, with the disaster in Haiti, well, it is what it is.  people who survived an earthquake are now trying to survive hunger and wounds.  if you are unable to donate to Relay for Life, please, if anything, donate to help the disaster in Haiti.

although, if you are willing and able, i have good news for anybody willing to donate even more of their hard earned green to a good cause.

i have asked for a few favors from some FOT to help motivate this fundraiser and give back to people who are loose with their wallets.  for anyone who donates, you are entered in a drawing/raffle deal, owned and operated by yours truly, in order to win any number of contributions thanks to the kind FOT of this board.

*a photo by Lisa Jane Persky
*a cross stitch by Andy
*a publication by Neil Numberman
*a painting by Bonnie (yes, THE Bonnie...if she is still willing and able)

in addition to entering to grab one of these personalized treats, you also get a button pack (of which i need volunteers*) strictly for donating: main.acsevents.org/goto/iambaronvontito.  if you have already donated (or when you donate), please send me your mailing address: iambaronvontito2@gmail.com

thank you all for being amazing people and allowing this board to exist as a place where i feel comfortable asking for money merely because it is illustrated again and again how giving and gracious everyone is- thankyouthankyouthankyou- like Tom, you do it and you do it and you do it some more.

FOT for life,
IABVT

*i am ordering buttons through busy beaver; however, they use photoshop for their template.  i don't have photoshop and i don't know how to order buttons (because i am an idiot).  i am willing to compensate (through fees and/or favors) ANYONE who puts one second of their time into this with me.  for any questions, send an email.

I am definitely still willing and able! Let's do this! Relay for Life has specific meaning to me, as well, so I am all for this.

this is great!  i have received more donations and i'm getting emails.

also, don't forget to email me your username and address to send the buttons.  even if you donate $1, you get a button pack and you enter to win one of the cool gifts donated by our very own talented FOT.  the amount isn't what counts and i can't stress that enough.

thanks again everyone!

i'm getting good news about this every day.

as of this morning, there is going to be an addition to the list of donations made by the FOT that will be given away.

also, as a clarification regarding the awesome prizes, because of how many people are on the board and how many people i'm hoping will donate, each of those pieces of FOT art will be given away individually.  chances are, it will be executed secret santa-style: i write down the names of everyone who donated/emailed me, throw them in a basket, and draw them out- ta-da.  again, it DOES NOT matter how much you donate in order to grab a button pack or be thrown into the drawing.

under different circumstances, it could be like the marathon with a price set; however, with the disaster in Haiti, the WFMU emergency marathon not long ago, and the annual marathon approaching, well...we only have so much to give.

thanks again everyone for your support.  please forward this on to friends, family, etc.

hey everyone,

apologies all around for sleeping on the job.  with the holidays, then the marathon, i've been trying to find a convenient time to bump this thread.  no time like the last second, i suppose.

in a nutshell, i am still attempting to raise money for RELAY FOR LIFE 2010, which is extra special for me.  my mother, a lady near and dear to my heart, battled cancer and won (so far), however, since then she has discovered that the radiation decreased her lung capacity by 50% or so and VERY RECENTLY it has also been discovered that the chemo caused heart damage.  my mom is now dealing with Congestive Heart Failure.

to everyone who donates, no matter how small, there's a button pack in it for you.  $1 or $100, it doesn't matter.  also, everyone who donates will be entered into a raffle to win gifts coming from our very own talented FOT.  i'm very excited about this.

to donate, go here: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/iambaronvontito

if you have any questions, you can reach me at iambaronvontito2@gmail
for the FOT sending raffle items, my mailing address is as follows:

L. Abasolo
PO BOX 41101
Memphis, TN 38174

you can post questions and comments on this thread.  thanks again to everyone who has already donated, it means A LOT...don't forget to email your address so i can mail you goodies.

thanks again,
IABVT
