Best and Worst Official IMDb Cast Photos For A Given Movie
« on: June 16, 2010, 02:54:35 PM »
Since the board's version of the Build-A-Movie Game is currently in one of its annual 11-month hiatuses, I am proposing a summer replacement series. As the title of the game implies, you are being asked to determine the best and worst "official" IMDb photos for the cast of a given movie.

Official, in this case, would be the one that appears alongside the actor's name and/or in the top left of his or her IMDb page. Best/Worst are slightly more subjective. Personally, I intend to focus less on the relative attractiveness of the actor, but we're all human and that will perhaps be an inevitable factor alongside perhaps more important ones such as the style and quality of the photo and what is says about its subject to you.

First up: Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Directed by James Foley, Written by David Mamet

I've chosen Glengarry Glen Ross to get things started because it has a strong mix of well-known actors and character actors who may or may not be well served by their photo. More importantly, it goes a solid nine actors deep before you get your first person without a photo at all.

Best:
Jonathan Pryce. You might argue too arty, but the blue filter immediately draws attention among the cast list. It's a stunt, but it works. To some extent, it gives Pryce the vibe of someone who might have been producing Bends-era Radiohead, while also retaining a dignity for Pryce that makes him look like he could be a Founding Father of the US if he was sent into the future and lived in space.

Worst:
Al Pacino. That's Pacino's official photo? Is that from a Happy Days movie where he's playing Fonzie's dad? Come on, get on this, Pacino's people.
This may be the year I will disappear.

The Handover is a good one, mostly on the strength of Zach and Jeffrey Tambor (and face-tattoo-less Tyson).

Outside the rules, but this is one of the first photos of Robert Evans: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2963380224/nm0263172

"Have you seen Spidermun 2, baby?"
Remember how he couldn't stop his leg?
