Funked Up East has been on YouTube for seven or so years, and almost every video is an album of Warsaw Pact or Soviet jazz (or various types of non-top-40 music) running from the 1960s to the early 1990s. I found it while looking for the WFMU floating record, which is this trad jazz Gershwin album done by the Leonid Chizhik Trio in Moscow, 1977.

You get Soviet Estonian bossanova, the Andrzej Trzaskowski Sextet playing with Ted Curson in Poland (1967), Vagif Mustafa Zadeh (also spelled "Vaqif Mustafazadə"*) from Soviet Azerbaijan doing jazz fusion in 1979, the Rolf Kühn Quintett's album Solarius from East Germany (1965) - all that's the tip of the iceberg. The channel also has unreleased stuff, such as the Soviet garage band Lel', Yuri Morozov's electronic space album Human Extinction, etc.

* In Azerbaijani. It's a Turkic language that is mutually intelligible with Turkish; the people are also known as Azeris or "Azerbaijani Turks."

My favorite Soviet era jazz band = The Ganelin Trio. They have such a playful spirit. They also can play beautifully when they want to.
