No, it was a parody/tribute of an earlier lecture in the series. We have a world-class guitarist in our music department named Larry Vincent who gave a lecture called "The Music of Revolution". We also have a guy named Rob Lloyd whose background was in game show production, who took over the production of the faculty lecture series in Septemeber.
So the stage is set for Larry's lecture, the lights go down, these flashpots go off on each side of the stage, smoke starts billowing out from the stage, they project a big American flag, and Larry steps out playing a modern take on Hendrix's version of the Star Spangled Banner. It was awesome.
My lecture was only tangentially related to music, but I joked that I was so impressed by Larry's intro that I pulled together my special effects team to create something special. I played 8 measures of the national anthem standing in front of that slide of a giant fireplace (the flames were actually moving!) Then I started the real lecture, such as it was, after a brief mention of WFMU and the Best Show.
I posted a link to the lecture earlier this week, if anybody wants to see it. If you have any interest and want a copy of the Power Point (so you can read the slides), just let me know. It won't seem to embed, but you can jump to it here.
