I'm about 380 pages in, and I have one question: "Effing"? Is that really appropriate in a children's book?

No, Bruce, I've never read The Adventures of Huckleberry Effing Finn.

OF COURSE I HAVE. I don't think it's comparable. The "N" word was perfectly acceptable in polite speech during that era.

She always said that the first book was the most child-oriented and that they would get more adult after that.

Wait till you get to page 680 where they recreate the sacrifice scene from "Apocalypse Now."
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I understand that the Death Eater orgy on page 733 makes the writings of the Marquis de Sade look like A. A. Milne. I can't wait!

I keep asking the London Cabbies to take me to Diagon Alley. No one thinks I am funny.

Well, I'm currently lollerskating. That is to say, I lol'd, which is to say that I think you are funny, and that is all that matters.

Are you sending Poor Richard in the direction of a good old fashioned English mugging?

Omg Omg. It is all I can do not to look at that page mentioned.  In fact, today I am briefly breaking my self-imposed temporary internet leave of absence that I have been adhering to for a couple weeks so as to not have this book spoiled.

I posted this on AST, but I'll post it here because I'm really wondering just how good these books can be:

My best friend just told her husband to tell me she's "not accepting phone calls tonight" so she can finish the book which she bought yesterday. Didn't really care why I was calling, but let me know, through him, that she wouldn't be talking to me tonight.

I'm not really sure any book is good enough to allow someone to be that rude. That's all I'm saying. I still love her, but I'm pretty pissed off.
