New Fish Out Of Water Short (The third in a series) is up here:
http://www.vimeo.com/11468522

I really enjoyed this, although I am disturbed by one detail; at the 3:15 mark, every single finger on the right hand of our Hugman is quite clearly exactly the same length. This is disquieting in the same way that learning that Steve Forbes never blinks was unsettling.

I'm just glad that was able to distract you from the fact that Fish's headrest was missing.

This isn't MY extra-curricular activity, but some people in NYC set up an exhibit of a friend's work http://www.queensbuzz.com/lic-space---long-island-city-cms-582

He committed suicide back in November and it was pretty devastating. His art was a lot of fun and I always enjoyed it. He was a force of nature. If you happen to be around, check out AGHOST.

Dear Toronto: I'm going to be on CBC Radio 1's Here And Now at 3:50pm today talking about a magazine I have and a party I am having. I will try to slip in some kind of FOT reference/phrase, but more importantly I will try not to say anything inappropriate or stupid. Fingers crossed!

Yes! I was unsuccessful with the FOT reference, but totally did the other thing I wanted to do, which was Not Swear On The Radio. Also I learned what the traffic guy there actually looks like and it is SHOCKING.

Shocking like what?

Also - we're allowed to swear on the radio in Canada, aren't we?

Hey, our documentary on Steven Jesse Bernstein is having an encore screening at MoMA on Thursday, May 27th @ 4:00PM. I co-produced the film.

Here's MoMA's write-up on the film:

I Am Secretly an Important Man
2010. USA. Directed by Peter Sillen. Sillen's documentary portrait of the guru of grunge, Steven (Jesse) Bernstein, undulates like a spoken-word performance. Known in the Seattle art and music scene as one of the most influential voices of the late twentieth century, Bernstein was a poet and performance artist who recorded with Sub Pop Records and inspired Kurt Cobain, Oliver Stone, and many other writers, filmmakers, and grunge and punk musicians. Bernstein performed stories and songs about society’s fringes—angry, tender, and sometimes corrosively humorous portraits of drifters, junkies, and ex-cons. He committed suicide in 1991. Sillen’s uncommonly sensitive and poignant new documentary features rare interviews and performance footage—Bernstein’s gravelly, incantatory voice is unforgettable—and forms a kind of loose trilogy with his earlier documentary portraits, Speed Racer: Welcome to the World of Vic Chesnutt (1994) and Benjamin Smoke (2000, codirected with Jem Cohen). New York premiere. 85 min.

Any Toronto FOTs going to see Marc Maron tomorrow, Friday or Saturday? I'm planning on Friday. If you'll be there it'd be fun to meet in person!

Although Alex from Brooklyn does not post on the board much, I know for a fact that he is a card-carrying FOT who has listened to pretty much every Best Show since 2006 (when I also started following).  He is one of the legion silent FOT who support the show financially and virally (in a marketing sort of way, spreading good word-of-mouth).

I am going to this thing to bone up on my Jesse Bernstein knowledge and to show my support for an old, dear friend.  I hope to see you there!

Are you in Portland?  Do you like pinball?  I know there's some FOTs who would lay smack dab in the middle of that Venn Diagram.

http://www.portlandpinballmap.com/ (not a site I put together, but I was trying to find a video I made with a friend in college, and it looks like he had a hand in designing this).

I have plays running in Berkeley and Chicago right now.  PM me if you want me to look into comp or discounted tickets.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.
