College Football....
« on: August 31, 2007, 02:37:04 PM »
I'm sure this will be a hot, hot, hot thread on the board.

Anyone else a college football fan?  It's now 29 hours to kick off and the OU football message board I frequent just crashed due to excessive traffic.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

Andy,

Yes, I'm excited.  I'm a UNC grad, and after years of sucky John Bunting we've got Butch Davis, so things are looking up.  I love college football about the same as the NFL, which is also gearing up.

But you're going to be able to hear the crickets on this thread.

I used to love college football, now I like it a lot.  could not ever watch NFL.

what scares me about the state of the game is that at the powerhouses, it's tough for me to say that these guys are not professional athletes.  I've been a lifelong OU fan, been going to games with my dad since '85.  I got to work around the stadium this spring and it's absolutely jaw dropping what these players get.  They work a lot for it, but to say that they're not compensated (besides the scholarship) is a stretch.

I can't watch it, simply because of my experience at UM. I knew a few football players, and college football is a full-time commitment. It's pretty much impossible to be both a student and a football player. I don't like it.

I really love it; in fact, I used to write a weekly column for a local small-town newspaper about it. But this is getting dangerously close to revealing my compulsive need to construct lists, and I was hoping not to get into that until our third date.

I do not doubt this.
Come to Miami when they play here in '09.

since my alma mater fordham university hasn't fielded a decent team since vince lombardi, i root for other northern catholic schools like boston college and notre dame. i'm still amazed at how seriously people out west and down south take college football. i know it's cliche but the pageantry and intensity that draws me in. im rooting for bc to finally show up those southerners in the acc and at least make it to a bowl game that matters this year.

APP STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously - I've known 20 people who attended App State and graduated college, but none who graduated from App State.

vince lombardi? as in, the rest stop? (turnpike north exit 18)

i root for rutgers, since purchase never had a team.
