Little Groter Needs to Call
« on: September 11, 2007, 11:53:29 PM »
I just wanted to publicly preen about my first call to TBSOWFMU.  I know, it's totally ridiculous - I speak in public, like, all the time - but there is something about talking on the phone that I find totally nerve-wracking.  I get the sweats calling people I'm actually really good friends with.

Anyway, I don't imagine this will get many (or any) replies, but I did it.  Now I just have to keep trolling my actors friends for gossip any time they get any good TV gigs.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Preen away!!! I'm with you 100% - talking on the phone is terrifying.  I find it much easier to speak in-person than on the phone.  I've actually lost contact with family members because I am so nervous about talking on the phone. I called for the first time also, and absolutely tanked, so you should be proud for not succumbing to the stone cold fear that sunk so many valiant would-be heroes (or just me).  Which call were you? I couldn't pay too close attention to the show because the battle-rage was coursing through my veins before my plunge.

Congrats, and I look forward to hearing your successful debut!

You sir are an inspiration to all us fellow phone-phobics. I hope to follow in your footsteps one day.

I'd say it's not so much phone conversations that are the issue. Speaking for myself, I think I'm pretty good at talking on the phone. It's just that fear of the unknown before making a call that is crippling. Sometimes it can cause you to overthink the call and become all discombobulated, without the advantage of non-verbal communication to save you.

But you did it. You faced your demons and emerged...well not victorious, but didn't fall on your face either. That's  something.

Clark on the other hand... there's a fella who could benefit from fearing the phone a bit more.

I hear yah, I'm terrified of the phone. congrats on the first call though!

once you get over that first hurdle it gets way easier but tread lightly, I've been GOMP'd and trust me it's not something you want to experience.

Thanks, guys!  There were some good Herzog jokes in the chat last night.  Of course I thought of a few today - I'd be in the middle of a lecture at Rutgers and think of something I should have said in chat and start cracking up.  Talk about wit d'escalier.

I called in about my friend who played Dwayne on John From Cincinnati.  He had a story about it that was kind of interesting.  Ironically, he shares a name with the Rutgers FOT who left a great TBSOWFMU fun kit in my classroom.  It made my night.

Yeah, Clark needs to feel a little of the fear he inspires in others.  Tom handled him perfectly, like a professional hostage negotiator.  He could do that!
