A couple hours later, I'm 95% resigned to this being a dumb pic of donuts, one of which happens to look like their logo. It doesn't seem plausible that they'd release the series (I know I'm not buying it again), and even FWWM seems unlikely. But, oooh that other 5%.... I still want those deleted scenes.

Those doughnuts look too anarchic to be from Twin Peaks

It's kind of a lot of goddamn donuts, though, as in, what's this for?

A gaggle of clues for the new year, most of which have been figured out here: http://criterioncast.com/2011/01/01/wacky-new-years-drawing-hints-at-criterions-2011-slate-of-releases/#more-10785

I saw this today but I had no idea it was every single Criterion. Wow.

It's not every single one. I think there's about 150 now, but more are coming, including stuff that isn't going to be released on disc. That FAQ mentions they'll all be taken off Netflix by the end of the year (wonder if that includes all IFC films too).

But it is going to be every Criterion very soon. For $7.99 I might just get rid of my DVR and save 7 bucks by getting Hulu Plus. Seems like almost everything I watch is on there. If I didn't get cable for free it would be a no brainer.

I'd be really surprised if this deal included, say, MGM-licensed stuff like Sweet Smell of Success or Night of the Hunter.  Nevertheless, it's allegedly going to climb to 800 or so films.  I think they're up to 560-some dvd spine numbers by now, so that's a lot of previously unavailable stuff. I'm probably not joining anytime soon but I'll be interested to see how it shapes up.

I didn't see the stuff about being taken off Netflix. Blast and damn.

As far as physical discs, this site lists 658 (presumably including OOP and Eclipse material)

It's just the stuff on Instant. You'll still be able to get the discs from Netflix.

Except for the fact that they haven't upgraded any previously released films to the new Criterion versions in months.
