If anyone gets a copy of The Killing, give us your feedback. I'm interested in it but already have it on DVD.

"Another stupendous package from Criterion - it was so amazing to see both Kubrick films in the glory of 1080P and the extras offer significant value. Fans shouldn't hesitate for a moment. This is one Blu-ray  to keep in your home safe in a Mylar bag..." -- DVD Beaver

Sorry, but I've saved the Mylar bags for my Police Academy DVD's.

Thanks, Omar. I just got the blu-ray from Amazon today. I'm almost finished watching the movie again.

The package is indeed, fantastic. Also included is a prior film of Kubrick.

However, my opinion of the movie remains the same: solid noir but wouldn't really be remembered if it wasn't directed by Kubrick.

Been looking into adding Hulu plus just for the films that are unavailable on Netflix and was unaware that you can watch a lot of them for free, so yay Criterion.

It's amusing that the most popular films on Criterion's Hulu channel are always the ones w/ the most softcore elements. The porn always rises to the top.

Here's one young cineaste's review of IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES:

Quote
its hard to watch this without masturbating. I can't review how the movie really is artistically If I'm getting hard all the time. I find myself skipping through everything until I hit one of the sex scenes. I guess that's the problem with putting too much sex in one movie - it backfires. I understand that the movie director was trying to show how addicted this girl was to sex but they could have shown that a different way. If you are 40 or older I would recommend this movie to you because from the little story I've seen before they interlope it looks pretty interesting and promising. And only people that old can get through the movie without getting a hard-on and actually appreciate the director's message. So I'll give this movie the benefit of the doubt and give it a 4 out of 5.

They haven't added anything new to the channel in a few months now so I hope they don't consider it a bust.

I'm assuming you're only referring to the Criterion movies?  Because if there are worthwhile movies on hulu plus that aren't on netflix, aside from the Criterions, please advise!

They also released their annual New Year's drawing of hints for 2012 releases today. Harold & Maude, Rosemary's Baby, Godard's Weekend, Being John Malkovich, Y Tu Mama Tambien (again), Eating Raoul, Summer W/ Monika, Quadrophenia, Samurai Trilogy upgrade all look definite.

"Eating Raoul", huh? Excellent. I haven't seen that in ages...

I'm still waiting for the long-rumored edition of "Ghost World"...

Weren't they also supposed to be working on a release of David Fincher's "The Game"?

It will probably come out sometime this year.  I think the main issue at this point is Fincher having enough time to supervise the transfer and participate in various supplements.

Awesome. I really like that movie, though I was under the impression I was relatively alone in that opinion.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Among the new titles announced today is Being John Malkovich, which includes a conversation between John Malkovich and John Hodgman.
