Thank You God...
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:33:19 AM »
...for giving me the gift of the WFMU live stream on my iPhone.

Now my 3-hour long bathroom breaks at work every Tuesday will be fill with mirth, music and mayhem. And a few objectionable odors.

My computer is bigger than your iPod.

You know what, this might sway me toward the iPod... How's the audio quality on the live stream? Does it buffer a lot?

If you're away from WiFi and using the crapola EDGE network (which the iPod Touch doesn't have, obviously), the phone can't really keep up if you're running the 128k stream. The 32k stream is better, but like that link said, the iPhone Quicktime player sucks at buffering huge chunks of data.

This IS an absolute battery drainer, though...but then again anything using wireless shit is a battery drainer.

Hiding or IBS or the like?  The former I hope, I guess.

True dat. Laptops are USELESS without a nearby power source.

Doesn't really work over Edge.  It just kept repeating the same 3-4 minute chunk over and over again.

Great for WiFi, though.  I have a little stand thingy with speakers next to my bed-- now I can listen to WFMU as if it were a local radio station, even though I'm in Colorado.  And I can listen to the best show live and futz around the house and not have to blast my computer.

Yeah...I just found that out on my end as well. What a bummer. I guess this isn't really "streaming" more than it's just downloading a giant mp3 file (at least as far as the iPhone is concerned), so it's probably running out of cache space when it does that annoying repeat thing. What a bummer.

And to add insult to injury, the free municipal wifi in my town won't let me access the FMU stream. Crap.

Same thing seems to be happening over WiFi, too.  Means I'm stuck to the computer still.

When I can actually use the camera on an iphone as my regular camera and the mp3 player as my regular music player then i'll take the plunge.

also, they need a better service provider. cingular? bah. i know that one kid hacked the iphone so he could use his own service provider instead, but i'm definitely not that skilled.

The camera *is* crappy.  And it's beyond me why cell phones never come with a flash:  Like an LED is so expensive?  And then you could use it as a flashlight, too, which would be awesome.

But I like the iPhone better as a music player than my old nano.  Not just one less device to carry, but nice big artwork plus the remote clicker is nice.

I didn't want to like my wife's iphone, but the interface is incredible, the camera is surprisingly good compared to other camera phones.

My 8125 has a flash, but a crappy camera.  I'm about to upgrade and the new Flip or whatever it's called has a 3mp camera.

The iPod part of the iPhone is indeed, as they claimed, "the best iPod ever". That's the main reason why I wanted an iPhone, because I hate carrying 2 devices in my uncavernous pockets when I'm walking about town. The main downside to it though is that it's kind of a shitty podcast player, because the lack of a clickwheel makes it difficult to seek to or "rewind" portions long mp3s, such as podcasts. The teeny tiny popup playhead scrubber aint so hot in that respect.

The camera aint so hot, but I like that I can instantly upload photos to Flickr (if you jailbreaked your phone of course)
