We have kittens...
« on: November 10, 2007, 11:32:29 AM »
I'm going to post some pics later when my camera battery charges, but we have kittens.

We live in an old neighborhood with a lot of "neighborhood" cats (not strays, they're fed and friendly)  We also have a huge covered porch.  This morning we had a mother cat and 5 kittens on the porch and they've been hanging out all day.  2 black kittens and 3 silver with light gray tiger stripes and blue eyes.  They're extremely cute.

Guess I'll have to break out the cat trap and start getting them fixed.
Breakfast- I'm havin' a time
Wheelies- I'm havin' a time
Headlocks- I'm havin' a time
Drunk Tank- not so much a time
George St.- I'm havin' a time
Brenda- I'm havin' a time
Bingo- I'm havin' a time
House Arrest- I'm still havin' a time

Congratulations!  Do you plan to keep all of them or are you seeing to the neutering out of the goodness of your hearts?  Are you going to get the mother snipped as well?  This will depend on whether she can be separated from her children, of course.  If they're still hanging around with her, they must be very young.

Lucky you to get to revel in kittenry.  I could use a dose of 'em myself--sans the attendant responsibilities, however.

brilliant idea!

On getting them fixed: there is a big groundswell to make OKC a no-kill community, which the wife and I are big supporters of.  There are 3 new community shelters opening in the area that are offering catch, spay, release programs at little or no cost, but we'll probably use our normal 24 hour vet clinic because we like to support them (24 hour clinic is a nice thing to have in the area when you need it.)

We'll be getting them fixed because of that and the fact that we're more likely to find them a good home if they're fixed and have their shots.  They look like fun little playful rats.

I love this picture:

It's a good thing I live where I do; otherwise, I'd be hard put to resist taking one of the tabbies off your hands.  I'm a sucker for a cat with an "M" on its forehead.

As an avowed cat lover, may I request that this become the Post Your Cat Thread?

This is Leopold, from two and a half years ago.  My camera broke and I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed.

This is about six months after that.  I saw the two kittens were very close in the shelter, but I didn't want two cats, so we adopted Ernesto (the one on the right).  He was so depressed that he wouldn't come out from behind the toilet.  So I called the place and sprinted all the way to Park Slope to get Leopold, and I'm glad I did.  The little guy is funny and incredibly loyal.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Ernesto and Leopold look remarkably like my cats, Mitchell and Cruz, a brother and sister who were dumped with their mother in the abandoned building next door to me on Veteran's Day eleven years ago.  They used to cuddle like that when they were young, but now they tolerate each other at best.

Sorry Dave, but kitties are better than people.

(And I really do like people. A lot. But I like kitties more.)

They fight a lot more, but they still sleep in a pile.  Susannah, Molly is adorable.  How did she adjust to the cross-country move?
