If memory serves, and I think it does, they named their spawn Brooklyn because that is where it was conceived. I can't remember if Brooklyn is a girl's or a boy's name. It's kind of girly, but I have a feeling Brooklyn's a boy.

I was never fond of Posh Spice "back in the day," but I kind of love her now. I was Ginger all the way back then. Even during my teenage punk days, I bought up all of the Spice Girl Chupa Chups I could and retrieved the choking hazard/sticker in the center of the lollies and stuck 'em on my walls.

I think I agree with you Sarah but I've never had a pet or taken care of animals so I don't really know enough to make any arguments. They seem healthy though.

You don't have to have taken care of one to make the argument to your vegan friends. Their animals are natural carnivores... it's just that simple. If your friends love animals so much they should be better to the ones they own.

True - and I'm not saying you should raise veggie pets, but if I can throw one wrench in here, no industrial food is that simple.  The crap that ends up in your average pet food is unbelievable, and I'm not sure if there have been any studies done on just how it's affecting them.  If you're not prone to queasiness, check this out: http://www.homevet.com/petcare/foodbook.html

Now write me a receipt so I can tip on outta here...

Of course, and a great deal has been written on the subject (that and [over]vaccination).  It's one of the reasons so many people are now making their animals' food at home.  Too many, damn it:  I'm having a hell of time getting an electric meat grinder at a good price off of eBay--too many people want one to grind bones for their beasts.

I started out being into Ginger Spice, but quickly dropped her for Scary.  In the wanng years of their first go-around, I eventually developed a thing for Sporty.  Always hated Posh, though.  And Baby was, well, a baby.

baby, posh and ginger are all from the same part of the world as me. i'm as proud as can be.

the two mels, though, are northern, so forget them!

I used to buy those too. I also love posh now. She's amazing--sometimes I wonder about the possibility of her being a high end sex robot.

I was a baby spice fan before. I don't know what I was thinking liking Baby, because she's now my least favorite.

I used to think Ginger was hot, then I realized she was totally pedestrian.  I looked past Sporty's theme-wear and realized she was the hottest Spice Girl, and I do believe that conviction has withstood the test of time.

You gotta be kiddin' me about that Mothership album, rover.

I don't have a cat.  More of a dog person.  I think you gotta feed these things meat, though.  I can't even conceive of a cat being a vegan.  That makes no sense at all.  Why not just NOT have a cat.

My girlfriend and I got in a huge fight with a friend of ours over cats vs. dogs.  We weren't even saying that dogs were better than cats, just that dogs are more emotional and emotionally available than cats, and she was all "That's cause dogs are fucking stupid!"

Hey, did anyone ever see that Mark McKinney "I'm a Cat" sketch on Kids in the Hall?  That was one of the most weirdly unfunny things I've ever seen.

So being emotional and emotionally available means one is stupid?  Jeepers.  Although if she's right that means I'm pretty fucking smart, so I should agree with her, right?

And, yes, I've seen those McKinney bits.  Never quite understood the point of 'em.  He was not my favorite Kid, in any case.

In any case, my comment had more to do with the fact that JJ's girlfriend equated emotionality and emotional openness with stupidity.

I just read the article TL linked to about what's in commercial animal food (my favorite ingredient?  "dehydrated paunch products").  It sure made me feel a lot less guilty about feeding my cats supermarket chicken sometimes (.79/pound as opposed to $3/pound for organic).  And I think an animal on a homemade vegan diet might be better off than one eating the poison we can buy for them in the grocery store.
