Here you go, Mike:

I enjoyed I'm Not There, but I'm a big Dylan fan. If you're not much of a Dylan, you may find it a bit confusing.

Unless you were being zany posting this in the Yo La Tengo thread, in which case apologies.

As I said, Velvet Goldmine didn't really do it for me like this one did.  Safe is the only other Haynes film I've seen and I consider that one of the best of the 90's.

I'll probably go see this.  Also wanted to add that Safe is a totally awesome film.  Julianne Moore's performance is beyond belief - so good.  I'd like to see his film about Rimbaud too.

You can't go wrong with a luscious lady like Ms. Moore. Normally I don't go for pale women, but let me say that I would not kick her out of bed for eating pudding.

Ew.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Thank you Josh, for providing a fine example of oversharing.

It's a quote from Danny/Hannibal (starts at 0:32) of the March 13, 2001 "Listener Appreciation Show."

Danny loves the movie Hannibal and has seen it about a dozen times, but he can't watch end - it's too scary.  He waxes, uh, eloquent about Julianne Moore.

Chris L. is on the money here. The more I think about it, the more I want to see it again. There's so much crammed into this movie that you'll be picking up things long after you've left the theater (I didn't pick up the Tarantula reference until I was riding the PATH home).
I agree that Christian Bale's performance borders on caricature at times, but he makes up for it with a strong born-again Bob. The Richard Gere segment goes on a little long, but for fans of The Basement Tapes it's a real treat (Dylan nuts will be picking this apart for years).
See God, Kai

See, I couldn't tell if Haynes was mocking this phase or not, the same way he seemed to come down ridiculously hard on Bowie's "Let's Dance" era in Velvet Goldmine.

I definitely would like to see it again, both to pick it apart some more and also because it looks fantastic in the theater.

EDIT:  Also, does anyone know whether that scene where Ledger is sitting at the cafe spouting sexist comments is based on some specific interview or incident?

I can't really tell if anyone actually liked this movie. it's boring sometimes but it's good?
is it really worth 10 dollars? i'm on the fence.

as for todd haynes, i liked far from heaven. the velvet goldmine was pretty, but that's about it.

Beth, I was talking about maybe two pieces of a very large puzzle that I didn't care for.  Actually, some of the Ledger/Gainsbourg scenes that I did like are among the strongest in the film.  It's absolutely one of the best films of the year and completely unlike anything else out there right now.

As I said, Velvet Goldmine didn't really do it for me like this one did.  Safe is the only other Haynes film I've seen and I consider that one of the best of the 90's.

Cool. I'll probably go see it. Charlotte Gainsbourg being in it is a big plus, I love her, singing or onscreen.

I'd also like to note that although the film Velvet Goldmine didn't "do it" for me, Jonathan Ryhs Meyers in glam make up sure did (I probably sound like Larry the perv here as well).

You guys, I watch The Tudors because of Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I could make a horrible pun about jerkins, but I'm not going to do that.
