i think i loathe peter king's non-sports opinions as much as i respect tom's opinions. so the fact that peter king loves juno just makes me hate the movie more.

Tom hating Juno is like a bonus for me thinking it looked terrible and knowing that everyone I know would go see it and think it was pretty good.  Now I think the Juno-bashing has obviously taken on a life of its own, but I think it's fair to say that some people share a sensibility that may not be understood by everyone else, and those people flock together.  My earliest Best Show listening had a lot to do with Tom Scharpling being literally the only person in the entire entertainment universe who shared my opinion that The Lord of the Rings was boring garbage.  Please see the "Apologist Thread" for complete listings of things FOT's allow themselves to like even though Tom Scharpling doesn't.

John Corbett has been tapped to star opposite Toni Collette in Showtime's comedy pilot "United States of Tara."

The project, from Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody, centers on Tara (Collette), a woman with a multiple personality disorder.

Corbett will play her husband, Max Gregor, a ruggedly handsome contractor who lives a life of stress and tries to read as much as he can about his wife's condition.

The role is familiar territory for Corbett, who played hunky carpenter Aidan Shaw on HBO's "Sex and the City."

It also extends the actor's relationship with Showtime. He starred in the cable network's 2006 pilot "Manchild."
 
Craig Gillespie is directing the pilot for "Tara," which is slated to begin production in April in Los Angeles.

Corbett, who recently signed to co-star in the indie romantic comedy "Baby on Board," is repped by CAA and Steve Lovett Management.

Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs is a 15-track compilation of cute, folky, whimsical songs, made of the same wry stuff as the unexpected hit soundtrack of earlier this year. Kimya Dawson, who headlined that album, is back with two songs. Repeat performances are also in from Belle and Sebastian, Barry Louis Polisar and Buddy Holly.

"None of these songs made the movie," director Jason Reitman explains in the liner notes, "but they are all essential members of the Junoverse." Yes, he uses the word Junoverse.

Ellen Page, who played the film's title character, sings a song called Zub Zub - written by screenwriter Diablo Cody but left on the cutting-room floor. It's about how Juno got pregnant, and is of course punctuated with kooky neologisms and Juno's endearing deadpan humour. (Which is to say that it's cute but essentially redundant.)

I just started working at an old theater that shows movies and hosts comedians.  Next week I'll be bartending during five double-bills of Juno and There Will be Blood.

Call me a Scheepling if you will, but I also think that There Will be Blood is an all-time great film and that Juno is worse than shut the hell up.

After next week, they'll be forever linked in my subconscious!
