Best GOMP of 2007 nominee:

4/17/07 (the first show back after the kidney stone): I don't know how to link to a specific part of the archive, but it's at 25:50 - right at the point when he abandons the sick voice.

Are the nominations limited to 2007? I'm assuming so, but I don't see anything in this thread specifying the rules.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Most Valuable Episode:  the hilarious Christmas episode, the best december-time gift i received

Every other award should go to Hesh.
Sounds like someone was working as a conduit for nature's natural vengeance.  Just like Jesus.  And some of the others.

Most charming caller (between Bonnie and Laurie, best laugh goes to Laurie hands down)
Best rope-a-dope
Best chat/board person who should call (Wes)
Best nervous caller talk-down
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

How about "Best call by (name a caller.)"? For instance, Best call by Spike; Best call by Petey, etc...Of course, this might require someone obsessively going through the entire archive and studiously keeping a record of every call; who made it, what time did it start, how long did it last, and what was the point(s). Hey, Laurie's not working, right?

Maybe we could set up a temporary forum and each category gets its own topic?

I've been looking through the recaps and I'm through about March so far...

Best Topic is an awesome idea...
 - Rock 'n Roll Heaven
 - the movie game
 - best movie quote
 - dial it down a notch
 - I don't get it (Jan. 30 - also contains a good rant on Little Miss Sunshine)
 - Come on, guys

Best In-Studio Guest:
 - Tim & Eric
 - Paul F. Tompkins
 - Patton Oswalt
 - Jens Hannemann
 - Zach Galifianakis
 - Seth Galifianakis

Worst Publication:
 - Autograph Collector (Jan. 16)

Best Street for Cruisin':
 - Hylan Boulevard

Best Sing-a-long:
 - Under Pressure (Jan. 23)
 - when the mother sang along with Tom to "Kids! What's the matter with kids to-dayyy?" (when was this?)
 - "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" with Ted Leo

Best Laurie Feud:
 - vs. people's hate pits
 - vs. Petra Hayden
 - vs. her banning (06-07)

Tom's Favorite Henry Rollins book:
 - Smile, You're Traveling (Black Coffee Blues Part 3)
 - Get in the Van: On the Road With Black Flag
 - See a Grown Man Cry, Now Watch Him Die
 - The Portable Henry Rollins

I think Fred from Queens deserves at least a nomination for his sometimes misogynistic "bits".

People I Miss in the Chat:
 - Jess Shambler

Also there should be an award for this line (from Feb. 13) which I still think about sometimes:
"Tom asks Bonnie if she grew up in Georgia, or, as the natives call it, 'N'awlins'."
"Alright, well, for the sake of this conversation, let's say the book does not exist."

Best laugh, of course.

I'd probably be inclined to agree, but it seems too... simple an award to sum her up adequately.  She's definitely much more complex than a pleasant laugh.   ;D

Yes! to all of these.

For the Most Ghoulish category I'd like to nominate a guy that called a few months ago (I'm not sure if it was even 2007), who Tom declared the worst caller ever.  The call went something like this:
"Hey, is this some kind of high school radio show?  I thought this was some kind of a homo-show, but you're pretty funny." *GOMP*

Help me out, Omar.

I'm not a chicken,  you're a turkey.

Help me out, Omar.

Type what you're searching for into g**gle and add "site:recidivism.org" (without quotes) after your search terms. It was on Nov. 28, 2006.

Quote
- A first-time listener (starts at 1:31) wasn't sure if he was on the air because he expected some kind of fancy call wrangler to tell him that he was up next. Tom informs him that this is not NJ 101.5 with Jim Gearheart or Tom Leykis -- it's down home radio. The caller thought WFMU was a college station, so Tom tells him it's the station for the high school where he works as a Home Economics teacher. The caller doesn't want to offend Tom, but he says he thought he was listening to a "homo station". However, he discovered that Tom is actually pretty funny. Worst. Caller. Ever. Mark it! Best Call (period): My vote would be for the initial "Get ready to meet my little friend" guy. You cannot make that stuff up.
Worst Call (period): Can't really think of the worst. Excluding the obvious couple of candidates.

Also, I don't know if this qualifies as a GOMP, since it was just a hangup, but I love the moment during the "Worst Thing Anyone Has Ever Said To You" when someone calls and says, "Post-coitus... 'I have AIDS'." And Tom just hangs up and says sadly, "I don't wanna do this anymore".

The worst call is the call not made.  :'(

This is easily the best GOMP in best show history. It turned an L into a W in mere seconds. I've heard it dozens of times and never get tired of it.
