ok, this has been stuck in my craw for a few months now, and I need some input.

If you've ever been to a blog where there is a comment section at the bottom (like at the Onion), you may occasionally see the first comment (at the top, usually) consisting of simply the word "first" or "First!".

Am I missing something, or is this just a thing some people do now? Like "Hey, I was the FIRST person to comment!". Perhaps it is akin to calling "shotgun"?

anywhoo, I really hope this dies down soon, because it's annoying the s-hit outta me.

Fark.com created a booby trap (literally) for those posters who would crow about firsts -- a filter that automatically changed the words "first post" to "boobies" and then time-stamped the post hours later, so it would not appear first in the queue.
