Matthew Lesko would at least know how to spell "geurilla*", and probably wouldn't say something like, "It's just video for the web, so it doesn't have to be good."

*Or is it "guerilla"?  Damn it.  That takes the wind out of my snarky sails.

Yeah, I hear ya.
I don't know why I bother with craigslist jobs.
Most of the people that have called me were super sketchy.

It's hard work finding work.

Did you ever consider doing non-video things as your primary job and then do the fun video stuff on the side?

I know video production/film can be a really tough, unrewarding occupation sometimes. Especially in DC/Baltimore... at least that was the experience of a few friends of mine who tried it... Just a thought.

I hear ya.  To make a real go at it would probably require a move to New York and maybe a masters degree.  There's a glut of young gorillas out there, after all, and most of them are struggling.  If I wanted to deal with these kinds of odds, I'd still be acting.

The ad was placed by Matthew Lesko.  He just emailed me.
Now I feel like King Jerk.  I like and respect Matthew Lesko, who is no dummy, is extremely nice, and has great taste in comedy. (I met him at a Morgan Murphy show!)

He probably intentionally spelled it "gorilla" to be cute.  Still, he should probably get someone else to write his Craigslist ads.
Oh, and he doesn't pay anything remotely resembling a living wage, so my quest continues.

Are you eligible for unemployment, Dorvid? Or, what my Newport, RI, dole-collecting restaurant worker friends (who'd take off for a few months to either snowboard in Colorado or surf in Costa Rica while acquaintances mailed them their checks) referred to as a "state job"? I did a gig for the state back in 2001, and while I have vowed to never do that again, it did allow me to eat and make at least some of my car payments.

I'm eating fine.  As someone who doesn't have kids or a mortgage, I feel wrong even throwing out the idea that I'm in trouble, no matter how little I make or how unemployable and dysfunctional I often feel.

I really just started the thread to make fun of a Craigslist Ad. The ad has since been revised and the author revealed to be someone I actually like so, at the risk of sounding dramatic, let's let this thread die, and never ever speak of it again.  Amen.

I feel you, Dorvid.  One of the huge problems in our culture that someone, somehow, has to deal with is the back-door way that the rich kids get all the cool jobs because they require either a graduate degree or an endless series of unpaid/underpaid gigs.  Bah.

I'll do what I can to help you if you decide to move to NY.  I'm currently really down on my grad program, and would advise choosing a free or cheap one if you decide to go that route, but it's worth adding that I studied playwriting/screenwriting, which is considerably less practical than film/video (there are lots of well-paying but unsexy jobs shooting/editing commercials or industrial films, at least in NY).
