But didn't somebody end up getting fined when Bono said used "fuck" as an expletive that time?

I'm just a law student, but I'd pro bono the hell out of any work defending FMU before the FCC.

Yesno, if only you had said "pro bono the fuck out of etc.," it would have been perfect.

That quote was actually Sarah, though, not me, just to keep things straight.
Oh, good heavens. I didn’t realize. I send my condolences out to the rest of the O’Connor family.

Duh.  I didn't even see the bono/Bono connection.  I'm frankly not sure if I'm pro Bono.

This has been bugging me, not because it's a particularly bad thing, but at one point during the show (1:42:00 on the podcast), they read a pledge from Brian from Brooklyn (just like me, named Brian and from Brooklyn): "Glad you liked my poster design, Tom"

Problem is, t'wasn't me. I don't know many FOTs personally, so I am utterly confused who or why someone would do this. Or maybe there's something I missed??

Y'know, the same thing happened to me (almost). Someone named "Christopher from Cranston, RI" pledged a mouse. Not me!

okay, maybe there are more than one Christophers in my town and I'm just being egotistical. It's more fun to think that there might be FOUL PLAY afoot.

There must be an egotistical strain among FOTs. The first week, I noticed a certain "Mason from Buffalo" was named just moments after my pledge card was read (I'm Mason from Ottawa). When I pledged again, I considered writing a message to him on my pledge card. Essentially as an attempt to call him out and start a feud. The phrase "There can be only one" played over and over in my head.

Then I thought better of it. I don't know the guy, and judging by the fact that he pledged I'm sure he's a an upstanding young man. The Best Show is a big, beautiful umbrella and underneath there's room for everybody.

Congratulations! Unfortunately, I couldn't listen to the second marathon show live, but it made my thursday, listening to it on the train. Thanks for everything, Tom!

My egotism had to do with my town, not my name. Whenever someone called from Maplewood, I was like "I'M from Maplewood. Maplewood is MY town. Step off, son!"  But then I remembered that we were all raising money for the show and I hung my head in shame.

yeah, but that's one of the fun parts of the marathon -- hearing that there are other members of the disenfranchised in your same town (or consequently, places you've USED to live in). I live in Nutley and heard at least three people from there when they were reading cards. Damned if I ever see them walking the streets...

I guess that's why we're getting t-shirts -- it's like our own piece of identifying flair.

Yeah, I spent a while going through a couple dozen archive shows over the last several months, and I noticed after a while that nobody from Minnesota ever called in. Hearing all kinds of people from Minneapolis/St. Paul throwing in their pledges was a nice revelation.

It's the complete opposite for me: As far as I know, I'm the only Arkansan to pledge to WFMU in 2008. I didn't hear any other Arkansans pledge during Tom's shows, and I'm the only pledge from Arkansas on the Marathon Map. I realize this is a small amount of all the pledges, but still...

I think I'm about 15% Proud Of Myself and 85% Disgusted By Everyone Else. Way to live up to your reputation, Arkansas. Flyover state for life!

EDIT: Maybe I should've checked the Marathon Map before I posted this.

If I find out that there's another guy named Jason living in Brooklyn who listens to WFMU, I'm going to be pissed.  Especially if he's a secular Jew, struggling writer, and non-tenure track professor.

Jesus, I'm a parody of myself.

It looks like every state except Wyoming represents.

I've spent a little bit of time in Wyoming.  Frankly, those people should have other priorities for their money than donating to WFMU.  Like, saving up to move out of Wyoming.

Or tipping those waitresses they make work for like two and half bucks an hour.

The pledge map's not up to date. At least, I am not on there. Can I keep my money?

What kind of super caller would that make you?

Seriously though, as a former college teacher myself (who left to sell out in big business), I sort of feel like we should be pledging to you! Trust me, brother, I know the pain!
