A Mild Disliking Pit?
« on: March 26, 2008, 10:15:44 AM »
There exists a set of people that, although being nice enough and not doing anything especially grievous, deserve a trip to the Hate Pit but not to spend an eternity with Saget and his ilk.

My suggestion? Tracey Ullman. Seems like a nice enough person and isn't a supreme jerk, but anytime she does one of her "voices" I cringe.

Who else?

Maybe Ellen Degenres? She seems like a sweet lady, but her daytime show is supremely irritating.

Ah, so you listened to Fresh Air yesterday too, eh? Well, that little interview is hardly Mild-Disliking-Pit-worthy...That's full on HATE PIT material. If you want your blood to boil, check this out:

Like Robin Williams, but ten times as unfunny.

I haven't listened yet, but I'm assuming Tracy Ullman does all kinds of cutesy voices and Terri Gross fawns over her.

That's what Terri Gross does, right?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

I'm listening to the interview right now, and Tracy lost me when she referred to herself as an old soul.

I would say that NPR and public radio as a whole are in my mild disliking pit...the entire operation is so mild-mannered that it can't generate much hatred beyond mild dislike...

Ugh. I can't stand it when anybody does that. It's just a cowardly way of saying that you haven't taken the time to learn how a computer works.

Terri Gross is just terrible.  Ugh.  She gets good guests sometimes, but really does sometimes ask the most inane questions.  Jesse Thorn.  Howard Stern, when he's not being gross.  Tom.  Great interviewers.  Leno.  Gross. Terrible.

I like Terri Gross.  I don't always agree with what she finds interesting, sure, but she's very often interviewing someone I'm interested in.  She also ranges from pop culture to political and economic stories.  With all of NPR you take the good with the bad, and on NPR she's the good.  I find her interviewing style a lot less annoying than Jessee Thorn's style, who also has a lot of good guests.  Some of his guests (Simon Rich, Miranda July...) make me much angrier than people I've heard Terry Gross interview.

I love Miranda July, and will chain-fight to the death for her right to do whatever the hell she dreams up next.

Sarah Jessica Parker.

She could fall into a number of topics: "It's Ovah", "Wouldn't Want to Be Chained To In the Swamp (sic)", etc.
How is it that people think she has talent?  I mean, I'm glad to see a female Jew like myself so successful, but really.  Something in her voice just gets me all angryful.
